Head of Development

Head of Development position, up to GBP80k, Hybrid role in Stevenage. Your new companyYou will be apart of a GBP1.7bn turnover group who deliver essential services within the water, energy, transport and telecommunications sectors in the UK & Ireland. They have a headcount of over 10,000 people, who all contribute to the success of the organisation, which operates across 240 areas in the UK.They are embarking on a journey to double their turnover, and are looking for a new Head of Development to support this journey.Your new roleAs the Head of Systems Development, you will provide a high–level design and establish the basic structure of systems in use by the company to ensure it is consistent and operationally defined. As the Head of Systems Development your duties and responsibilities will be:

• Direct software applications acquisition, software development and testing activities
• Provide the framework and work with the development outsourcer (Zensar) to produce software development processes and standards and ensure that they are followed
• Provide the framework and work with the software testing outsourcer to produce software testing processes and standards and ensure that they are followed
• Maintain regular communication between the Business Change Manager, Business Analysts and Zensar to understand their requirements and ensure that the high–level design remains fit for purpose
• Review the systems development service being delivered to the company working with Zensar to implement any proposed changes
• Review the testing service being delivered to the company by the outsourced software team to implement any proposed changes
• Continue the hard work of the previous software development manager who has moved internally in the business

What you'll need to succeedThis role would be ideal for someone to take a step up into a managerial role or someone who is currently a team leader of a small team and wants to move to a larger organisation.Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

• Relevant previous experience in a similar role
• Extensive knowledge of IT systems and a high degree of technical skill
• Experience of supporting and developing systems in an enterprise environment
• Software development and system integration experience
• Previous use of Force architecture, Apex, Visual Force, SQL Server, Web technologies, APIs and integration tools
• Ability to apply an innovative approach to development and problem solving across the range of platforms, software and systems
• Experience in supplier/relationship management and dispute resolution.
• Knowledge of agile and scrum project management methodology.
• Experience dealing with difficult customers
