My client who designs, manufactures and supports world leading military vehicles are looking to recruit an Electrical Sub Systems Engineer. The business is currently preparing for an exciting period of growth ahead of key armoured vehicle programmes for the UK MOD. They are now looking for proactive individuals with a willingness to lead and integrate into large engineering development programmes.

Overview – Position Purpose

As an Electrical Engineer, you will be involved in the design & integration of equipment at the system and sub–system levels. This is a varied role which will expose you to lots of different vehicles and systems.

This is a demanding role, requiring close liaison between Engineering teams, Team Leaders and suppliers.

Significant drive and energy, strong systems engineering skills, and the ability to deliver a diverse programme to demanding time, target cost and quality requirements are essential attributes to succeed.

The candidate must be a team player who is prepared to work with a multi–site engineering team with the customer community. The individual will be required to work across geographical and cultural divides to draw together a comprehensive engineering capability that will derive balanced system solutions.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Development of design material, drawings and engineering calculations for the electrical installation of armoured fighting vehicle subsystems including:

Design specifications
Single line/block diagrams/System wiring diagrams/Schematic diagrams
Harness design drawings
EMC bonding diagrams
Electrical installation drawings

Generation and maintenance of power budgets for 28V DC vehicle subsystems Development of vehicle based electrical power generation, conversion and distribution
A knowledge of application of Defence Standards for design of electrical equipment
Def Stans 23–09, 61–05 and 59–411 is desirable

Preparation of harness design specifications, component selection and supplier liaison.
Liaison with other functional departments, team members, and partners
Development and conduct of test/trials plans and procedures
Consideration of safety, risk, reliability and maintainability associated with the technical solution, in conjunction with subject matter experts.

Present engineering material to internal stakeholders and customers
Coordinate with the wider Engineering team to deliver a coherent design/platform
Production of technical specifications
Produce and review engineering drawings, technical reports, meeting minutes and other project documentation

Ensure engineering designs address the following:

Safety
Design for manufacture
Design to target cost
Design for EMC / reliability / maintainability

What Qualifications and Experience You Should Have:

Degree / HND or equivalent qualification or experience in Electrical Engineering
Competent in the use of 3D design software (ideally CREO or NX)
Working knowledge of drawing standards (e.g. BS8888) in the production of 2D technical drawings

Design of components and systems for new products and to support on–going product development

Ability to adopt innovative approaches to technical solutions and processes
Competent in the use of Microsoft based products (Excel, Word and Project)
Good problem solving skills
It is desirable to have an understanding of the basic requirements specified in Def Stan 61–5 Part 6 (Nominal 12V and 24V DC Electrical Systems in Military Platforms) and Def Stan 59–411 (Electromagnetic Compatibility).
EMC experience would be advantageous.
