The Business

London Luton Airport (LLA) is one of the UK's largest airports, with 11 airlines flying to 150 destinations in 42 countries. LLA is the United Kingdom's fifth largest and fastest growing airport, having facilitated 18 million passenger journeys in calendar year 2019, an increase of approximately 9% on 2018.

To facilitate this growth and provide a more customer friendly experience, London Luton Airport has invested over £160 million to transform the airport and increase capacity. Additional major projects include the creation of a new Direct Air to Rail Transit (DART) rail link between Luton Airport Parkway station and the airport terminal. LLA is an integral part of the local region and a major economic contributor to the UK through direct employment of over 700 people and indirectly supports over 10,000 jobs.

The Role

Working at the airport is like working in a small city with shops, restaurants, a fire service and dedicated police force. The airport's rapid growth and ongoing expansion plans have created an opportunity for an additional commercial lawyer to join the expanding team.

Working with the existing team and reporting to the General Counsel, the successful candidate will provide essential pragmatic legal and commercial advice to the airport, and will be involved in negotiations with the airports counterparties. This can include advice on general commercial, procurement, construction law and compliance amongst other areas.

The airport operates in a competitive, fast paced, rapidly evolving and commercial environment and works with a broad range of organisations. This includes airlines, retailers, transport, construction and facilities management companies. To ensure success, the successful candidate will need to learn and understand how an airport works and how the business impacts on various stakeholders and other organisations.

The Person

This role would suit a 1-4 years' PQE solicitor with demonstrable working knowledge of commercial law and solid experience of drafting and negotiating contracts and agreements. Previous experience in, or a willingness to learn about, other areas of law such as procurement and construction is important, as is an interest in compliance and the ability to work autonomously in a rapidly evolving and highly commercial business.

In exchange for your efforts you will receive a competitive basic salary, company pension, private healthcare, free gym, eligibility to a profit share scheme and discounted train travel. There are also discounts on shops and restaurants and seasonal staff discounts/offers.
