Heyland Recruitment are delighted to be assisting our client, an SME owner managed Service business that has experienced considerable business change over the last few years.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Financial Controller will be the number one on site in finance, managing a small accounts team and taking full responsibility for managing all accounting and financial reporting for the business.

As the business enters their next phase of growth, they are looking for a technically strong finance professional who possesses the commercial acumen to assist and challenge the Managing Director from a strategic perspective.

Main responsibilities include;
* Completion of all monthly accruals, provisions, prepayments and inter-company journals affecting month end closure.
* Compiling monthly reports from departments, interpreting and consolidating the month end results.
* Creating templates and supporting tools to assist the Business Units in the budgeting, forecasting and medium/long term plan processes.
* Scenario analysis, financial modelling and ad hoc reporting for key stakeholders as required, i. risk and opportunity analysis, business unit's benchmark with both financial and
non-financial data, bank covenants reporting.
* To ensure that all accounting transactions recorded in the primary accounting systems (e. Sales/Purchase Ledger; Cash Book, Payroll etc.) are accurately transferred and
properly recorded in the nominal ledger;
* To prepare and input journals into the nominal ledger for all transactions which are not automatically transferred.
* To ensure that all control accounts are fully reconciled on a monthly basis and that items placed in suspense accounts are identified and correctly treated.
* To ensure that capital expenditure items are identified and recorded in the Fixed Assets Ledger and any associated finance arrangements are recorded in the relevant loan ledgers.
* To prepare a monthly Trial Balance, Profit & Loss Account and Balance Sheet for submission to Senior Management. Includes preparation of monthly financial report and KPIs for
presentation at board meetings.
* To provide day to day supervision of all accounting functions to a team of 3.

Person Specification

* Fully qualified accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA or equivalent)
* Previous experience of working in an SME business
* Experience with preparing tenders, job costing etc
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel;

This role would suit an experienced Financial Controller/Company Accountant who has extensive experience of working within an SME business or subsidiary of larger group.
You will work closely with the Managing Director, providing accurate and insightful financial information whilst offering commercial support to aid the business growth and sustainability.
The ideal candidate will have a strong character, challenging existing processes and commercial decision making, offering viable alternatives and driving change.
