Engineering Director / Technical Lead (RF & Electronics)

JOB OVERVIEW: Engineering Director / Technical Director sought by exciting market leading R&D microelectronics systems company (PLC) who provide pioneering electro–mechanical solutions to the automotive and aviation sectors.
Contract type: Permanent
Salary : Negotiable but as a guide cGBP80K–GBP100K basic plus share options plus bonus, pension, health, dental, life, free parking etc.
Location: You are required in the Oxfordshire office 3 days per week minimum.
Start date – Flexible
Working conditions: Normal office and light workshop environment with occasional international travel as required to customers and partners.
THE ROLE & OPPORTUNITY
A result of succession planning my client has an exciting new vacancy for a fairly hands–on Technical Director / Engineering Director to lead the R&D engineering function which specialises in small–quantity manufacture / production of proof of concept microelectronics systems prototypes.
Reporting directly to the COO and with a hotline to the Chairman, this appointment offers the ability to have significant influence within a small and effective company commercializing its technology to several markets and applications. The appointment brings with it the ability to provide and use a wide range of experiences and knowledge, while at the same time working with knowledgeable and creative employees.
Duties will include:
* Provide leadership, collaboration, technical expertise/support, and communication within the business and with industry partners
* Create structures and develop the team as resourcing allows to enable the commercialisation of new applications, products and developing new Intellectual Property and know how.
* Operations and Customer Service (in conjunction with Manufacturing & Commercial dept) supporting customer prototype evaluation activities
* Supply Chain support (in conjunction with Manufacturing & Commercial dept)
* Project Management of research and development projects.
* Technology development and adaptation for new applications and markets
* Generation of IP and protection of existing
* Represent the Company in key Engineering interactions with major customers.
* Technology leadership within our partnerships, identify opportunities and competitive threats
* Writing technical reports, prototype specifications and other technical documentation.
* Engineering expertise (Electro–Mechanical design, RF Engineering (UHF), Process and Software)
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
* Respected Engineering Director / Technical Director or Senior Engineering Manager looking for the next step–up
* Experience of working as Principal Technical Lead
* RF Engineering / Electro–mechanical engineering based high tech industry background
* Experience of working in a small company / start–up environment
* Willingness to be hands–on when required
* Good knowledge of telecommunication systems, digital signal processing, principles of measurements & appreciation of mechanical design and techniques.
* Sector experience from the automotive, aerospace and/or instrumentation sector would be an advantage.
* Physics background further advantageous.
Ideal Skills & Qualifications:
* PhD / MSc / BSc in Electronics Engineering or RF engineering or Electro–mechanical related discipline from a reputable university.
* Proven experience as a Director, or similar leadership / man–management role
* Ability to conduct complex system technological analysis and research
* Ability to work in the Oxfordshire based offices at least 3 days per week
* Full UK driving licence is required to commute to the offices.
