An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Chelmsford EHS team as a Senior Environment, Health and Safety Business Partner. You will be assisting and guiding the Chelmsford facility through an exciting time of growth, hence your ability to establish your personal and functional credibility and to build strong working relationships acting as a trusted advisor will be key.

You'll be part of a central EHS team, so you'll need to understand all aspects of the business and act as a subject matter expert regarding Environment, Health and Safety.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, proactive, and keen to learn, and will be supported to develop the skills required of a competent health, safety, and environment professional.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Environment Health and Safety but work alongside the EHS Advisors, Co–ordinators and Technicians.

What you'll be doing:

Supporting the Head of Environmental Safety and Health to ensure the EHS management system is suitable and effective and aligned with the needs of the business;

Engagement with production, engineering, facilities and project teams to understand and practically support their operational and business health and safety requirements;

Manage and support the ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 Accreditations and internal audit program;

Support workforce engagement, and EHS culture development initiatives;

Manage and support the divisional Risk Action Groups that are chaired by operational managers;

Actively be involved in legal and management system audits and to ensure they are effectively logged and documented within the organisations framework for legal compliance recording;

Deputise for Head of Environmental Safety and Health, including preparation for and presenting at the SLT Health, Safety and Environmental Steering Committee;

Support the development of new or existing EHS policies, procedures, and provide professional guidance on risk management to ensure they are suitable and sufficient and;

Assist with the introduction, implementation, maintenance and use of EHS specialist software for the management of accidents, incidents, risk assessments, audits and inspections;

To support managers to address actions arising from risk assessments, audits and inspections etc. and ensure that appropriate action is taken and closed out in an agreed timescale;

Ensure that department managers understand and implement the requirements of the EHS Management systems and drive accountabilities;

Co–ordinate regular health, safety and environmental evaluations and audits in line with internal and external EHS audit schedules and support management in rectifying non–conformances and proactively address observations made to drive continuous improvement;

Work with the Occupational Health Department to assist in the identification and implementation of effective health surveillance;

Support management in the effective communication of EHS to all employees, including EHS newsletters and safety shares/moments, briefings etc.;

To assist managers with identifying workforce training needs in conjunction with managers and Human Resources;

Assist with development, implementation and testing of emergency preparedness and response arrangements;

To lead by example and demonstrate a positive attitude towards the EHS and the cultural improvement initiative.

What we're looking for in you:

* Experience of working in a large complex, higher risk manufacturing environment

* Business focussed and pragmatic approach to Environment, health and safety

* Able to lead and influence others at all levels and willing to challenge existing processes;

* Experience of conducting and reviewing Risk & CoSHH assessments;

* Knowledge of ISO 45001 & 14001 Management Systems;

* Knowledge of EHS processes, practices and systems and the ability to drive improvements;

* Understanding of Legal requirements and ability to interpret the legal text;

* Strong background and knowledge of industry best practices and applicable ACOPs;

* Confidence in ensuring compliance with regulatory servicing and inspections;

* Experience and understanding of working with a diverse workforce;

* Proactive, with the ability to take the initiative and prioritise effectively;

* Proven experience working with EHS compliance software;

* Have an equitable work ethic;

* Good understanding of IT routine packages.

Skills/ Qualifications:

* Relevant degree: NCRQ Diploma, NVQ 6 Diploma, NEBOSH Diploma;

* Member of IOSH, as a minimum Grad–IOSH (evidence of CPD);

* Certified Auditor (ISO 45001 & ISO 14001);

* Excellent presentation and report writing skills;

* Highly motivated and proactive individual with a pragmatic and can–do–attitude towards EHS;

* Proficient in all Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, Team, PowerPoint, OneNote.

* Understanding of Behavioural Based Safety and implementation of BBS Programs
