Overview
Formed in 1960, TAFE is firmly established as a global leader in the design and development of agri–machinery equipment. With a presence in over 100 countries and a group turnover exceeding US $1.5bn, TAFE is already the world's third largest producer of tractors by volume, backed by best–in class production facilities and extensive R&D expertise.

As a business totally committed to building long–term relationships with stakeholders via fair and ethical business practices, a major investment in a start–up European Technical Centre located in Newport, Shropshire is underway and due to launch this summer.

With a focus on developing new technology and products, particularly for the UK & European agricultural sector, individuals with the ability to drive and influence this highly innovative engineering centre of excellence are sought to take a leading role in the advancement of electrification, smart farming, and autonomous technology.

The Role
Responsible for the design, development and integration of transmission and hydraulic systems for agri vehicles including gearbox/ driveline systems, hydraulic systems, hybrid/ electric systems and motor drives.

You will evaluate, specify, and collaborate in the development of transmission systems and their integration into TAFE products – evaluating all aspects of the systems and associated components from fundamental science to manufacturing and assembly.

Responsible for internal testing, your team will be the key providers of insights into sub–system design.

Responsibilities
Specification, design and development of transmission and hydraulic systems.
Perform analyses for complex systems at all levels including concept, design, manufacturing, assembly, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.

Identification of virtual and physical validation requirements for system and sub–system development.

Develop simulation capability at system and sub–system level using industry standard tools and techniques (Amesim, Matlab Simulink, Masta etc).

Develop agile test and validation process including concept design, data acquisition, evaluation, and documentation.

Supervision and execution of vehicle and system testing and certification.

Support reliability and safety analysis (FMEA, FTA, HARA etc) and development in accordance with functional safety requirements (ISO 26262/ ISO25119).

Prepare and review engineering and technical documentation including test plans, analyses, reports, and change proposals.

Collaboration with vendors to maximise performance, minimise cost and maximise consistency.

Deliver the technical side of the project to APQP requirements and support the overall project delivery with Purchasing and SQA team.

The Person
Ideally Bachelor/ Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent with emphasis on practical work experience.

5+ years working experience within the design, development and test of vehicle transmission and hydraulic systems for off–road applications.

Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals in mechanical / mechatronic design, with broad engineering knowledge base gained in Hydraulic system layout & circuits, Hydraulic manifolds/ valve block, lubrication & cooling system design.

Good knowledge of current state of the art technology in transmission, hydraulics, and driveline.
Clear understanding of DFMEA / DFM / DFA processes is required.

Strong experience of problem resolution in transmission and hydraulic systems – production / field concerns etc.

Experience with mathematical modelling of transmission and hydraulic systems.
Strong technical communication skills.

Pragmatic evaluation of concepts and physical effects using a first principles approach.
Of distinct advantage would be previous experience of Hybrid / Electric driveline, HST (Hydrostatic transmissions), AMT, CVT, or Automatic / semi–automatic / power shift transmissions.

Also, experience in compliance engineering to external standards plus overseeing complete design cycles from concepts to fully validated products and designs desirable.

On a personal level, the TAFE European Technical Centre provides an unrivalled career opportunity for genuinely driven, creative, and adaptive team players to lead collaboration across numerous projects, disciplines, and departments – internally, externally and also internationally.

With a willingness to take on additional responsibilities and challenges, an ability to prioritise and organise project workloads, coupled with excellent problem solving, analytical, communication and reporting skills is sought after.
