My high profile banking client is currently seeking an Operations Business Analyst to join them on an initial contract of 6 months with the possibility of extension. You will be working within Collateral Operations as part of the Margin Management Team, which sits within Global Market Operations and Middle Office (GMO & MO) and is responsible for mitigating the credit exposure created by the day–to–day trading of Futures and Options across all organisational entities. Trading with all kinds of clients (Investment Banks, Hedge Funds, listed companies, Governments) upstream systems mark trades covered under the Terms of Business for Exchange–Traded Derivatives

Margin Management

Our primary role is to ensure all the firm's margin calls are answered and agreed (where supported by underlying documentation/MTM data), and to respond to all our counterparties' calls in good faith. This often requires interfacing with a number of key groups such as:

Sales/Trading Desk/ Account Management

  • Credit: Credit set limits for counterparty exposure/upfront for Collateral – oversee trading activities
  • PB Risk & Futures Risk
  • Legal /Documentation: Negotiate Terms of Business for Exchange–Traded Derivatives, IPBA Agreements

Owing to our risk management mandate Collateral Operations receives plenty of attention from across the firm, especially in times of market volatility. It is, therefore, essential that we understand the risks involved in failing to perform our BAU activities.

Job Purpose

  • Applies business and technical knowledge in determining end–to–end design requirements for projects involving line of business.
  • Works closely with business partners to determine requirements and develop functional designs based on the analysis of line of business needs, objectives and existing systems infrastructure.
  • Drives and participates in design, development and implementation of applications, often using new technologies.
  • Works closely with developers and testers to ensure requirements and functional designs are translated accurately into working technical designs and that test plans/scripts serve customer needs.
  • Perform tests and work on remediation of issues.

Growth/Development OpportunitiesThe successful candidate joining the Margin Management team is doing so at a key juncture where the organization globally, is intensely involved in an operational efficiency program and UMR readiness planning. Therefore, subject to ensuring BAU activities are being completed to the levels and competencies expected, the incoming candidate will be given ample opportunity to assist and drive (where possible) the aforementioned change initiative.As a member of the team, the candidate would be required to get involved with all parts of the daily margin process. This would involve liaising directly with clients to answer any queries as well as with all internal stakeholders within the Collateral business areas. A good knowledge of both of these areas would be beneficial.Responsibilities:

  • Account profiling.
  • Inform and agree clients of cash and collateral movements on a daily basis, processing to minimize risk whilst providing high levels of client service
  • Investigate and recalculate clients margin calls as and when revaluations are required
  • Monitor the Margin requirements arising from the trading activities of our clients
  • Work with internal teams to set up client SSI instructions
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure the day to day Collateral Process is conducted
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to investigate and resolve both cash and securities investigations
  • Investigate, explain and resolve client queries on Interest calculations
  • Agree and co–ordinate required FX conversions for clients
  • Understand and monitor risk across the organisations portfolio of clients
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with both external and internal clients
  • Ownership of Key Performance Indicators including bank account reconciliation items, collateral fails and FX breaks
  • Attend client review meetings as required, prepare and present KPI and MIS reportings.
  • Authorisation of release of equity from client accounts (both cash and free of payment stock).
  • Liaising with other internal departments including Onboarding, Risk, Client Service and Account Management.
  • Involvement in ad hoc projects for new processes or industry initiatives.

Skills we are looking for:

  • Previous experience within a collateral management team.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a team environment.
  • Ability to identify gaps in a process and to question tasks performed
  • Ability to focus on detail and document functional requirements.
  • An appreciation of operational risk and internal audit processes.
  • Knowledge of Swift payments and a settlements background
  • Degree educated with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills are required.
