Trading Director

You know this home retailer. Everyone does. It's a prestige brand, a brand that starts the UK trends that everyone will be following next year. As Trading Director, this is your chance to define the design identity and language of a brand that every competitor seeks to emulate.

You know what it takes to be a successful Trading Director for a brand built on service, innovation and peerless standards, rather than promotions and discounts. Our client is looking for someone who can lead the definition and build of a product range. It's a range that is confident and assured in its brand identity, customer proposition and price positioning, a range that will further build its reputation as the leader in the UK market.

Despite its market leading position, this is a brand that feels like a family. It's an extremely collaborative environment, because that's what attracts the best people to come onboard. You'll lead your team of around 30 in a similar vein.

This is an organisation undergoing a dramatic change, so it's an exciting place to be – and a place for a skilled, experienced Trading Director to really make their mark. To do that, you'll need to be within an easy commute of the company's head office, as you'll be working from there for a significant portion of your week.

As Trading Director, your responsibilities will include:

New product development:

• Setting the design identity and language of the brand
• Defining and building product ranges in line with brand identity, customer proposition and price positioning
• Developing new products in partnership with external suppliers and the organisational supply chain
• Product range management – collections, lifecycle, positioning
• Maximising product range efficiency across customer segments
• Ensuring highest levels of design expertise throughout

Category management:

• Controlling pricing hierarchy across customer segments
• Running P&L, coordinating with sourcing for total range, COGS and pricing, and supplier promotional support
• Responsibility for range introductions across categories
• Managing range / product stocking levels and exit processes in line with lifecycle

Commercial planning:

• Responsibility for overall commercial planning, ensuring marketing, promotional and range introduction plans are integrated and managed appropriately to deliver sales plans

About you

You'll need to:

• Be a current trading director or equivalent
• Have a successful track record in defining and building product ranges for premium brands
• Be a collaborative leader, able to inspire and galvanise teams towards a goal
• Be adept at building strong, productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Have the clarity of vision to define a strong design identity that inspires customers
• Have the communication skills to articulate your vision
• Possess the diligence, analytical skills and commercial acumen to deliver the full scope of the role

• A salary of GBP160,000 – GBP180,000 plus generous package
