Due to continued success, a London based healthcare MedComms agency is recruiting for an experienced Scientific Director to join the team. As a senior member of the scientific team, the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to shape the role to fit their strengths and be instrumental in the ongoing development and growth of the division.

The agency has a scientific team consisting of scientific directors, writers, researchers and editors based in the UK and US, with a wide range of experience and expertise. Their sociable, friendly and proficient teams work across a range of medical affairs and commercial projects at different stages of the product lifecycle, over an extensive range of therapy areas. They also work closely with their market research division to promote the benefits of market research data in shaping clinical practice and improving care for patients. They continually look for new ways to use and build upon their capabilities, and they value diversity, creativity and expertise.

They're looking for a brilliant individual who demonstrates an excellent scientific understanding and who can translate that understanding into medical strategy and compelling scientific stories that resonate with target audiences. This individual must also be able to pair their scientific acumen with a commercial understanding that will ensure they lead a team to develop high–quality deliverables and to actively generate wealth for the business.

Main purpose of role

The Scientific Director is a key leadership role within a Medical Communications agency because they ensure editorial and content quality challenges and shape pharmaceutical scientific strategies of the future. They are recognised internally and externally as experts in the development and implementation of strategic communication plans, in one or several therapy areas/specialisms. Scientific Directors are expected to lead teams by example, having responsibility and accountability for delivery of consistently high–quality work, whether that be through facilitation of advisory boards or scientific meetings, or through partnering with clients to develop future scientific strategy. They are expected to own client relationships at a senior level, managing the scientific aspects of projects and programmes of work.

Scientific Directors assume responsibility for delivering wealth to the organisation, both personally supporting delivery of work across a broad number of offerings. Driving both organic and new business development, they are responsible for generating business that can be delivered by their team, being central to identifying new business opportunities and driving scientific strategy for proposals and pitches.

Scientific Directors are responsible for reviewing the work of others, whether in a coaching capacity or through formal line management whist maintaining an established balance between business development, delivery of billed work and team management and support. Playing a key role in giving the teams an identity and supporting them to live agency values and culture, they encourage collaboration across the agency, whilst driving the delivery to strategic goals with a specific focus on their own personal and their team's development plans to achieve individual, team and overall business objectives. A healthy proportion of the Scientific Directors' time is spent identifying and generating new business opportunities in existing accounts, whilst leading projects and ensuring consistently high–quality

Technical Knowledge and Skills

• Provides scientific counsel externally and internally, can deliver strategic communication workshops, facilitate advisory boards and be external–facing

• Demonstrates established ability to instigate develop medical/scientific strategy based on previous direct or extrapolated experience and is seen as an expert in specific fields and/or therapy areas
