THE SAINTS:

Northampton Saints is one of Europe’s leading professional rugby clubs. The Saints has a proud tradition dating back over 100 years and has consistently competed at the highest level in England’s rugby premiership. The Saints has also been highly successful in its off-field activities.

The home of the Saints is the cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens. On matchdays, around 15,000 supporters attend the Club’s stadium, bars, hospitality boxes, lounges and restaurants. On non-matchdays the Stadium is home to a thriving conference and events business as well as being home to the player training facilities and staff offices.

THE ROLE:

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Saints finance team in a newly-created Finance Business Partner role. Your main remit will be to provide the business with financial support, analysis, challenge, insight and advice to drive increased profitability, as well as supporting the rugby management team to ensure compliance with the Premiership Rugby salary cap framework.

Key Finance Business Partner responsibilities:
  • Work with the commercial departments to drive improved profitability from commercial business activities
  • Develop business cases for capital projects and measure return on investment
  • Evaluate new business initiatives
  • Prepare post-event accounts for non-matchday events e.g. concerts, dinners
  • Make recommendations to improve profitability through identification of trends, issues, risks and opportunities
  • Work with the Finance Director and Club Salary Cap Officer to ensure compliance with the Premiership Rugby salary cap framework
  • Work with the Head of Finance and HR to streamline HMRC and other regulatory compliance processes and implement new policies and procedures where necessary
  • Manage the annual salary cap audit process and other compliance reviews e.g. tax, regulatory
  • Support the budgeting and strategic planning processes
  • Oversee the production of the monthly payroll, annual P11Ds and PAYE settlement agreements
The ideal candidate:
  • A qualified accountant to CIMA, ACA or ACCA level with 2+ years post qualification experience
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and hard working
  • Proven ability to communicate finance to non-finance staff, deliver insight and drive action
  • Confident, personable and collaborative style, with the ability to liase with stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • A background in sport, leisure, hospitality, events or commercial is highly desirable
