As a leading engineering and manufacturing business in the Defence sector, this exciting and cutting edge organisation is now entering a key stage in their product development and manufacturing cycle which requires the support of a strong, capable and proven Head of Programmes to aid them delivering against projects with the challenging targets both internally and across their multiple global customer groups.

Reporting directly to the MD and leading a strong team of 10 plus individuals, the Head of Programmes will be a key member of the site leadership team and will be instrumental in the success of the next 5+ years of projects that are underway. The role will be critical in the success of the organisation; being accountable for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and clear results of On Time, On Cost and On Quality. The key accountabilities will include;

Improving and maintaining the value and margin of all projects.
Ensuring on time delivery and adherence to quality standards
Reporting on project status, both internally to the Business and externally to the Customer.
Working closely with the customer to understand the business requirements, developing effective working relationships and ongoing management processes for all projects.
Managing, identifying and mitigating project risk.
Owning and maintaining Project Management tools and processes in the UK and ensuring these are applied across all UK project activities.
Leading, developing and motivating the UK Project Management Team.

The Head of Programmes will be a proven manufacturing and engineering based individual with a strong structured and process led approach to Project / Programme Management. You will be a leader and motivator of people and will have had experience within the Defence, Military, Aerospace, Nuclear or similar industry with stringent security, quality and certification parameters associated to the projects that you have led. You will have a strong mix of the following skills, experience and characteristics;

Engineering background and qualification preferred, at HND, Degree level or equivalent
Planning, managing and delivering development and production projects involving small to medium batch manufacturing of discrete and complex products and sub–components; especially developmental projects where the parameters are constantly changing.
Excellent commercial and financial skills.
Knowledge and experience of Project Management software tools such as Primavera or Microsoft Project.
Good customer relationship and interpersonal skills with an ability to work and communicate with people at all levels.
Proactive, analytical and a logical problem solver
Confident, professional and autonomous individual
Able to travel as required to attend Group, Customer and Industry meetings across the UK and Europe predominately.
