Summary of Role

As a leading International Defence & Security company, we are recruiting for a Head of Engineering to support our Weapons & Sensors Mission Area.

Raytheon UK currently consists of three businesses, referred to as mission areas. This position is for the largest of the three, which combines our Weapons development and support teams, with our Sensors teams. Within sensors this also includes: Assured Position Navigation and Timing, Power & Control and Air Traffic Management Systems.

As the Head of Engineering, you will be accountable for all engineering resources, programme delivery and product development across this diverse portfolio. You will report to the Engineering Director and support the Managing Director for Weapons and Sensors. This means that you will be a key contributor and member of the Engineering Leadership Team and the Weapons and Sensors Management Team.

Core to your duties will be the efficient management of development programmes, product enhancement programmes, and the delivery of these new products from concept to launch. This will require experience in the nurture and transfer of engineering prototypes, through to qualification and certification, and to full rate production using a global manufacturing team.

Main Duties

Reporting to the Engineering Director, and the Weapons & Sensors Managing Director for all aspects of engineering and product development activity across the Weapons and Sensors mission area.

Leadership and line management of Senior Programme Engineering Managers and Subject Matter Experts across the Mission Area, with a small group of direct reports.

Act as the point of escalation, across Weapons and Sensors, for all engineering matters ensuring that engineering efforts are coordinated to provide optimum value for the business.

Provision of weekly and monthly engineering project status reports.

Sponsor and drive the Technology Roadmaps and investment cases.

Oversee the management, development and coordination of the engineering capability and performance of the Weapons and Sensors engineering team to help create and deliver the business growth and the engineering strategies.

To be accountable for the overall engineering budgets for Weapons and Sensors.

Capability and Capacity Metrics (Workload Planning), and Technology Road Maps.

Interface with other members of the Engineering Management Team to continue to improve the Raytheon UK Engineering Function as a highly capable, professional, and respected part of Raytheon.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

Senior engineering management leader, including, but not limited to the following:

Extensive experience in management, systems engineering and delivery of development programmes across all engineering disciplines.

Demonstrated competency for strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management.

Successfully developed and implemented product lines in established and new environments using new and emerging technologies.

Extensive experience in building and managing multidiscipline, high–performance teams (cross–functional experience highly desirable).

Building/ Coaching / Mentoring of engineering leaders and talent.

Managed financial resources to meet goals and multiple product schedules.

Demonstrated competency in relating efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.

Proven ability to work independently, as well as a member of a team and ability to direct large teams to meet tight deadlines.

Proven strategic planning and execution experience.

Demonstrable experience in driving change management programmes through to completion.

Must be willing and eligible to hold SC security clearance and possibly obtain DV clearance if required.

Desirable:

Technical depth and understanding in Electronics Design and Software engineering disciplines.

Experience within UK / US / International defence industry.

Political and customer / stakeholder relationships within UK / US defence industry.

Experience managing in a complex international logistics and licencing environment.

Chartered Engineer and member of relevant engineering professional institution.
