An independent Publishing House is looking for an experienced Finance Director to join their team on a part time basis. The role will sit within the Executive Management Board and will have overall responsibility for the finance function.
The role is required for 2 days per week and will lead the finance team whilst also providing the management ream with financial, strategic and commercial advice! The role:
- Manage, lead and develop the finance team, having overall responsibility for the day to day finances;
- Sit on the Executive Management Board
- Drive strategy, assist with decision making and assess the risks & benefits of potential new initiatives
- Preparation of budget, review of management accounts and accompanying narrative
- Assist the Finance Manager with year end duties and the annual audit
- Ensure appropriate controls and processes are in place, whilst ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations
- Accountable for the statutory accounts and manage all tax related matters
- Assess the accuracy of provisions for advances and stock held
- Lead a detailed review of the accounts function and implement any required changes
- Review the accounting and royalties/rights systems and upgrade as required
- Support the analysis of titles to understand the commercial positioning
- Support and drive initiatives to maximise income and profitability.
The person:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent), ideally with a strong publishing (or similar/related) background
- Prior experience of international trading of good and services would be an advantage
- Skilled at explaining finances to a literary audience and summarising for the board
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to challenge and influence others, drive initiatives
- Able to motivate and train others
- Solid technical and commercial accounting background
- Previous experience of working within a growing SME environment.
