Head of Legal– Locum

An exclusive opportunity has arisen for a locum position as an Interim Head of Legal within a Council in the South West. This is a great opportunity to work with an exciting team within a Local Authority

They are looking for a candidate to commit full–time to this role ideally, but would consider part–time, and the council are offering a fully remote working set up.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

• To lead and manage the Legal Team which delivers services which include: Property, Contracts & Procurement, Planning, Employment, general company and commercial law, local government law, Housing, Anti–Social Behaviour, Criminal and Civil Enforcement, Licensing, Adult Social Care, Child Protection and Children's Services, general litigation, and Information Governance

• Lead and manage the legal team to develop and maintain an empowered and high quality staffing group with shared values and objectives

• To engender an environment of Continuous Improvement and ensure that the skills and capabilities of the team is sufficient for the Council's needs

• Provide and/or oversee training and develop awareness of legal requirements and changes for officers and members on specialist areas of law

• Act as the Deputy Monitoring Officer

This contract will be an initial 4 months, with possibility of extension
