Job Purpose, Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • The purpose of the role is to drive effective RBM and HOR partnering across retail to support their objective of delivering improved profit by driving a reduction in stock loss, improved stock file accuracy, controlled costs and efficiencies, influencing and educating along the way
  • Responsible for delivering a strategy to mitigate the effects of loss through the implementation of a structured and proactive visit programme, taking a risk–based approach as appropriate at the time. Utilise a 'total loss' approach to drive the biggest return on investment
  • Be accountable for ensuring their language, behaviours and the work they do is aligned and positively contribute to the business customer service strategy
  • Responsible for helping ensure security related spend is effective, in the right place and adding value
  • Accountable for ensuring that individual expenditure is in line with Company policy
  • Accountable for using available data and analysis to identify to Heads of Retail and RBM's the priority opportunities and solutions
  • Responsible for supporting the analysis of escalating or inaccurate stock loss results and supporting the store to improve
  • Accountable for providing regional/remote/121 support to stores for accurate execution of stock takes and all stock movement processes
  • Responsible for being part of the support network to stores following incidents of shoplifting or abuse/violence towards their teams
  • Collaborate with DC Audit to identify and reduce impacts on store stock file accuracy
  • Collaborate with the Fraud Team to ensure a cohesive approach to reducing the risks from internal and external theft and fraud
  • Work with H&S and Maintenance/Estates to highlight and rectify issues which increase the risk to store team safety or likelihood of building breaches
  • Be able to competently carry out all necessary ER procedures relevant to the scope of their role

Functional Knowledge –

  • Good working knowledge and experience of how Loss Prevention operates in a retail environment and how to apply the right techniques to drive a reduction in loss
  • Good working knowledge of Employment Law
  • Knowledge of Criminal Law, including knowledge of IPA (2019) and PACE (1984)
  • Experience in conducting investigations, ideally holding a WZ or similar certification
  • Good working knowledge of CCTV systems, intruder alarms and access control systems
  • Good understanding of legislative requirements in both a retail environment and large business, i.e. GDPR
  • Able to effectively use all Office tools, i.e. Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint to effectively carry out all aspects of role

Business Expertise –

  • Experience of working in a retail environment essential, including an understanding of where losses can occur and how to most effectively mitigate as well as how to integrate Loss Prevention into a customer focused, cost aware business
  • Basic understanding of how a DC environment operates and interacts with stores an advantage

Leadership –

  • Whilst no direct leadership is involved in the role, the ability to adapt, engage and influence internal customers and stakeholders is a key requirement
  • Experience of working with others, both 121 and remotely
  • The ability to coach others, ranging in scope from store teams to other leaders in the business
  • Able to demonstrate working collaboratively across multiple functions

Problem Solving –

  • Ability to analyse information, for example stock take results, from different sources including system generated data, crime statistics, demographic data and knowledge gained from observations to both understand and improve results
  • Ability to follow set procedures, i.e. carrying out formal investigations, whilst using own knowledge and experience to gather appropriate and legitimate evidence

Nature of Impact –

  • Ability to influence others thinking and decisions to drive a strategy and results
  • Be able to coach others, e.g. store, and make a positive change to their understanding and behaviours

Area of Impact –

  • Primary impact will be in the retail store environment and with the field leadership team

Interpersonal Skills/Key Relationships –

  • Ability to motivate and influence others
  • Can confidently interact with more senior customers, i.e. Heads of Department, to inform and influence
  • Able to engage confidently with external stakeholders such as Police, Centre Management and Crime Partnerships
  • Network of LP contacts across other business, not limited to retail
