A new opportunity has arisen for an Antenna Hardware System Engineer to support the development of AESA systems within the AESA Core Delivery Team (CDT). The AESA CDT is multi–disciplinary team responsible for the design and delivery of Fire Control Antenna systems for multiple airborne platforms within Leonardo.
Leonardo is a world–class defence technology company. We develop cutting edge Radars for the Eurofighter Typhoon and SAAB Gripen fighter jets, as well as Maritime and Airborne surveillance systems. We are also investors in innovation, undertaking all our own research to fuel our future products.
Please note, that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for SC UK Security Clearance. Applicants holding dual nationality (where one of the nationalities is British) may be considered.
Such a variety of new projects is maybe the reason we have such an incredibly low staff turnover. Many of our people stay for careers that span decades. We see these people, our silver–haired heroes, as living proof that we're a great place to work. This experienced team is also a human encyclopaedia of technical know–how. What better way to learn and develop than by surrounding yourself by the very best, and most experienced, in your field.
What we can offer you
Annual leave of 25 days plus bank holidays
Free parking
Award–winning pension scheme, including an attractive employer contribution
Flexible working and additional flex–leave schemes to give you the time and flexibility you need to enjoy a balanced life
Salary sacrifice schemes
Access to thousands of online courses free of charge via Coursera
Onsite Occupational Health Service to look after your physical and mental wellbeing, and keep you safe at work
Restaurant facilities, including a coffee shop
Employee discount schemes for you and your family, including retail, cinema, hotel book
Family Friendly Policies
Learning & Development – we will assess your development needs in line with the role you wish to perform, to allow you to further develop
Career breaks – where appropriate, we support you to pursue other interests outside the workplace
Positive support for the Reserve Forces, including additional time off for Reservists
As an Antenna Hardware Systems Engineer, you will work with a core team of engineers from various disciplines to define key elements of the Antenna design through analysis and modelling. The modelling work will be used to underpin critical elements of the overall Antenna design. The modelling analysis will be used to detail compliance of the Antenna performance to the overall Radar system. The modelling work will also be used to progress Antenna design concepts across current and future developments.
The Antenna Systems Engineer will be responsible for maintaining models for the following technical areas with support from the relevant domain experts.
Develop behavioural models for the Antenna sub–systems.
Maintain power and thermal performance models.
Model the Antenna timing performance with both digital control and RF performance modelling.
Develop models for key Antenna control functions including BIT (Built In Test) functions.
In addition, the candidate may be required to assist with Antenna design modelling activities and overall Radar system modelling tasks.
Required Skills & Experience:
Systems Engineering knowledge in Antenna or Receiver design.
Experience of MATLAB / Simulink modelling and other modelling tools.
RF knowledge and design experience.
Understanding of hardware and digital design including FPGA design.
Knowledge of signal processing techniques.
Knowledge of Python, or other software scripting languages would be desirable.
An understanding of Antenna design is a key part of the role.
The candidate will need to work with teams from many different technical areas including RF, microwave IC design, hardware, mechanical and firmware. As a result the candidate must have good verbal and written communication skills, numerical skills and be willing to work as a key contributor within a dynamic team environment
