The vision of AstraZeneca Oncology is to redefine cancer, redefine our solutions to cancer, and restore patients' lives. To achieve this, we have an exciting and diverse portfolio that focuses on four scientific platforms that we believe show the greatest potential for yielding effective medicines for cancer patients. These scientific platforms include; Immuno–Oncology (IO), Tumor Drivers & Resistance (TDR), DNA Damage Response (DDR) and Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADC) and we are developing therapeutic agents across multiple modalities including; small molecules, biologics, Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs), nano–medicines and PROTACs.

The Oncology DMPK team is part of Oncology R&D, a core therapeutic area for AstraZeneca.

*What you'll do*
Oncology R&D is a major focus area and growth platform at AstraZeneca. Our vision is to be at the forefront of developing the new generation of cancer therapies. We work together across all boundaries to have a positive impact in the world by solving complicated problems. The Oncology Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department provides ADME/DMPK, as well as translational PK/PD Modeling & Simulation support to our discovery and development portfolio. We are looking for an individual who has a passion for ADME and DMPK science, applied to Cancer biology
As an Associate Director of DMPK, you will report to the Head of ADME and supervise ADME scientists locally in Cambridge (UK) who provide support for our diverse drug discovery and development portfolio including small molecules, biologics, antibody drugs conjugates (ADCs), nano–medicines and PROTACs. The qualified candidate will also work closely with our DMPK team in Boston (US), maintaining collaboration within the global department. In addition, the selected individual will function as a DMPK Project Representative and be expected to provide direct support for Oncology drug discovery and/or development projects. This senior role is a rare opportunity that requires skills in line management of experimental DMPK science, direct project support and scientific capability development, focused on progressing the AstraZeneca oncology portfolio.

*Accountabilities*

* Supervising and managing a team of ADME scientists by mentoring and challenging them, as well as providing expert advice and context for the interpretation of complex data.
* Representing DMPK as a function in oncology drug discovery and / or development project teams
* Recommending, initiating, leading and championing new innovations that ensure cutting–edge DMPK science is applied to drug project issues.
* Developing and implementing state–of–the–art technologies in the field of in–vitro drug metabolism and transporters including drug–drug interactions in support of discovery projects and suitable for regulatory submissions
* Carrying out collaborative research aligned to DMPK and Oncology objectives and publishing research papers and reviews in internationally recognized journals.
* Fostering collaboration within the global group and brining the enthusiasm to tackle new challenges and learn new skills.
* Managing student and Post Doc programmes.
* Involvement in external collaborative projects with academic or cross–pharma pre–competitive groups.

*Minimum Requirements – Education, Experience and Capabilities*

* PhD or equivalent degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Pharmacology with experience in drug discovery and development
* At least 5 years of relevant industry experience in ADME Science and DMPK Project representation within the Pharmaceutical industry
* Strong technical knowledge of DMPK and bioanalytical science with a proven ability to delineate the impact of chemical structure on measured properties.
* Practical experience of DMPK assay delivery including experimentation, assessment of assay quality and troubleshooting of data issues.
* Track record of successful problem solving, high quality science and influencing of stakeholders, particularly in a drug project context.
* Excellent interpersonal skills that lead to successful collaborative working relationships is essential
* Good understanding of the drug discovery process and how DMPK studies contribute to that process
* Desire to carry out scientific development and research work with a view to publishing collaboratively demonstrated by a strong external presentation and publication record. Recognised as an expert in DMPK
* Experience and knowledge of working with multiple modalities including; small molecules, biologics, Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs), nano–medicines and PROTACs is a plus.
