Leonardo has a limited number of opportunities for Principal Systems Engineers to further their professional development in an organisation at the forefront of avionics technology, products, and capability innovation. NATO JEWCS (Joint Electronic Warfare Core Staff) is the provision of a realistic electronic environment (radar and communications jamming, simulation and surveillance equipment) for NATO units under training. This is a Prime Contract with the overall solution being provided by a small number of major equipment sub–contracts.

A Principal Systems Engineer will be responsible for delivering the equipment from a major sub–contractor, with a focus on Systems Engineering activities, to integrate and support the proving of the equipment for which they are responsible.

Working across the whole of the systems engineering lifecycle, as part of a multi–disciplined team, the successful candidate will be the primary interface into one of the sub–contractors technical team. They will support the Prime Chief Engineer and Systems Architect in ensuring the integrity, compliance and safety of the subcontractors proposed design, its suitability to meet the requirements and address the end users needs. As a result, strong technical, delivery, and people leadership abilities are essential in this role.

What you will get

Prestige: You can be at the forefront of the provision of a truly significant UK defence programme.
Influence: You can apply your individual knowledge and experience to develop the next–generation of sensor and communication systems for a future combat aircraft.
Teamwork: You'll work alongside like–minded professional engineers in a highly collaborative environment, who share a passion for innovation, excellence and customer satisfaction.
Continuous Learning: You'll be supported in your ongoing professional development though mentoring and an extensive training portfolio.
Connections: You'll join an expansive team of around 7,000 people at six major sites across the UK.

What you will do

Work closely with a sub–contractors technical team and the Sub–contract manager to ensure its adherence to the specification, its integration into the wider system, support its proving and acceptance with the end customer.
Influencing all levels of requirements to enable design and development decisions and trade–offs to be made for your specific equipment sub–contract.
Support test and requirements traceability understanding to achieve certification and delivery for your specific equipment sub–contract.
Working with and influencing key project stakeholders relating to your specific equipment.
Present Systems material at Design reviews internally and externally for your specific equipment.
Act as a primary technical interface between the end customer and a single sub–contract supplier.
Actively support knowledge sharing and exploitation of best practice.
