The Opportunity

Leonardo is seeking communication systems engineers for the development of an aircraft inter–vehicle data links (IVDL) communication system. The role will be initially focussed on system design, including antenna, transceiver and modem specifications and communications architectures to be implemented on laboratory and aircraft concept demonstrators in later stages of the project. The systems engineer will provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle, including design implementation, integration and test, and customer demonstrations and trials.

This role will provide unique exposure to a variety of communications products and subject–matter experts, as well as the ability to interact directly with the user community to understand their operational needs and directly apply this knowledge to future product capability enhancements.
What you will do

You will be responsible for delivery of specific work packages supporting IVDL communications system development; working across a range of technical disciplines such as: system & architecture design, RF integration and antenna integration.

Key responsibilities:
Management of requirements.
Development of close relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to understand, interpret, and (where appropriate) influence, current and future user needs and requirements.
Technical analysis and modelling of IVDL antenna/terminal/modem performance.
Modelling of IVDL communications system and its performance.
Perform feasibility studies to advise customers on potential solutions.
Technical documentation of system solution.
Support to RF & microwave engineers in sub–system design

What we are looking for

You must have:
Experience of communication systems implementation, including knowledge of Communications systems techniques, waveforms and architectures
Knowledge of RF communication systems hardware implementation (such as transmitters, receivers, filters, SDR).
Experience of mathematical or system modelling (e.g. MATLAB, System view).
Ability to produce detailed technical reports.
Graduate degree in relevant engineering or related scientific discipline.

It would be nice if you have any of the following:
Knowledge of protocols and error correction schemes
Knowledge of current military communications systems.
An understanding of Transmission Security (TRANSEC) methods
