Director of Economies & Corporate Finance -
The ICAEW or Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales, a global professional membership organisation are currently seeking to hire a Director, Economies and Corporate Finance. As the Director of Economies and Corporate Finance, you will be reporting into Managing Director for Reputation & Influence.
The purpose of this leadership role is to direct ICAEW’s thought leadership and policy work on our strategic themes of supporting the transformation of trade and the economy and mastering technology and data, with reference to the impact on the private sector and the profession.
The postholder will be a member of Reputation & Influence’s Management Team and will be expected to contribute in a collaborative way to the delivery of ICAEW’s Strategic Plan and the Department’s objectives.

As the director of economies and corporate finance, your duties will include:
- Develop and lead a high quality workstream on issues relating to matters affecting the performance of the economy and the way in which chartered accountants are both impacted and impact on the economy, such as enterprise policy, access to finance, technological disruption and innovation, capital investment and productivity.
- Provide a strong profile for ICAEW and its members and produce valued workstreams on the spectrum of deals and transactions, including corporate finance, transaction and mergers & acquisitions services, and valuations, and ensure we as a professional body can provide insight as to the value such services are providing to the whole of the economy.
- Develop and deliver thought leadership and policy content that is timely, impactful and outcome focused.
- Build and nurture strong stakeholder relations, both within and outside of ICAEW, to ensure that our influence on matters relating to economic policy and trends and subsequent impact upon the profession is extended.
- Establish a high media profile, through relevant and impactful content and professional media and stakeholder engagement, to enhance ICAEW’s reputation on matters relating to the performance of the economy and the way in which Chartered Accountants make a positive contribution.
- Provide direct leadership to the teams involved in Corporate Finance, financial services, tech and business and economic-related matters to develop and deliver thought leadership and policy content that is timely, impactful and outcome focused.
- Chartered Accountant, or other relevant professional qualification.
- Demonstrable experience of dealing with matters relating to economic policy and the impact upon the profession and wider business at a suitably high level.
- Experience of matters affecting deals, such as corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, and valuations.
- Demonstrable leadership skills with proven organisational abilities.
- Excellent project management skills, with the proven ability to devise, develop, direct, and deliver high quality content, thought leadership and policy work which advances discussion and debate and provides strong tangible improvements on economic policy.
- Strong analytical skills, particularly about the way economic trends and forces are impacting upon the performance of the business and the wider economy.
- Professional and engaging media presence, with the ability to advance ICAEW’s reputation and profile through pro-active participation in print, social media, and broadcasting opportunities.
- Excellent inter-personal, negotiating, and collaborative skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire the team under direction as well as wider stakeholders.
