The Strategy & Programme Office team is looking to recruit a Senior Programme Manager (SPM) to support with Cross Wellcome and Ops programmes of work.

We are looking for a leader who is experienced in managing large scale projects and programmes across multiple stakeholders.
Leading a small team based in the strategy and programme office, you will work closely with teams across Wellcome to implement and manage programmes and projects to support Wellcomes new strategy
A background in science or research is not essential, but an interest in delivering projects that make a real difference is.
The SPM – cross–Wellcome and ops will:
- Lead cross–Wellcome planning and reporting, defining standards and templates for key documentation and working with other enabling functions (particularly Finance) to run periodic delivery planning exercises for Wellcome.
- Line manage Programme Officers deployed across Wellcome – working with Senior/ Programme Managers responsible for managing their work to support their performance, ensure continuous and development.
- Support the Strategy team with any programme or resource management needs.
- As member of Wellcome Programme Office leadership team, ensure the Programme office shares appropriate project and programme management, skills, approaches and best practice. Drive cross–team Programme Office work to support continuous improvement across Wellcome.
- Design, support and/ or lead ad hoc cross–Wellcome business improvement programmes.
- Ensure templates and processes for key programme management activities reflect industry best–practice and are appropriate for Wellcome's culture and ways of working.
- Manage and track key risks, priorities, escalating programme–level risks before they become issues, and ensuring that these risks are being addressed by the business area and Wellcome management.
- Recruit and line manage Programme Managers/ Officers as required.
- Coordination of internal communication plans and products relating to the Programme Office as needed.
- Build, manage, lead and motivate an integrated, inclusive and flexible team, ensuring that people with the right range of skills and experience are recruited and retained, and that their skills and professional capabilities are deployed to best effect around the organisation.
- Be the owner of the risk and control environment for your area and be accountable for the quality of you and your team's outputs
Skills and Experience:
- Working towards Programme Management professional accreditation – desirable
- Able to demonstrate experience of working within a Programme Management Office
- Experience with coordinating competing priorities and multiple stakeholders
- Strong people management experience (within a matrix structure)
- Articulate with strong verbal communication skills, including presentations
- Excellent organisational skills
- Line management experience
- Ability to think in an analytical way with the ability to adapt well to change over the scope of a programme.
- Evidence of good writing skills with ability to synthesise information conveying key points clearly and concisely
- Meticulous attention to detail
- IT literate with experience of using database and other computerised systems, including Microsoft Office products
