Our policy department develops evidence–based policy to inform Government decisions related to cancer and research, communicating our views to key decision–makers. We are uniquely placed to inform political debate, and we work with Parliamentarians across the country to ensure that cancer prevention, detection and treatment remain health priorities.

The Director of Policy will play a critical role in setting a strategic direction for CRUK's externally facing policy agenda, as well as providing strategic oversight and direction for our influencing priorities and public affairs and campaigning activities. You will be well networked in the political arena, with the ability engage and influence senior leaders. You'll have experience of running a large Policy function and you'll also be an inspirational and strategic leader, driving forward our vision of beating cancer sooner.

As Director of Policy you'll oversee a workforce of around 46. You'll lead high performing and experienced teams across areas including Policy & Implementation Research, Policy Development, Public Affairs & Campaigning, and International Policy.

  • Proven ability to network with and influence a broad and diverse range of senior stakeholders to progress critical agendas.
  • Political awareness with substantial policy/ campaigning experience in one or more of the voluntary, medical, health and research sectors
  • Strong strategic thinking/ problem solving skills informed by an appreciation of internal and external factors and the ability to identify and leverage synergies.
  • Inspirational leadership experience with the ability to build a compelling vision and align others behind it.
  • Credible and recognised professional within the Policy arena (whether Health or elsewhere).
  • Proven track record of developing and executing policy strategies/ approaches that have far reaching and demonstrable impact on the ground.
  • Excellent relationship/stakeholder management and communication skills.
