Location: Redman Place (with high flexibility, meaning we'll only ask you to be in the office 1/2 days per week)

Application Deadline: Wednesday 22nd September, 11.59pm

The CRUK Technology team has been redesigned, with a product portfolio model at its core, supported and enabled by core capabilities (eg business analysis and agile methodology) and centres of excellence (eg architecture and engineering). The Head of Product Portfolio is crucial in this new structure: you'll be responsible for the success of the partnership between Technology and the Fundraising and Trading teams and will ensure the delivery of the full lifecycle of technology products and services to those critical parts of the charity.

*Please note that we also have a Head of Product Portfolio (Marketing and Engagement) vacancy open, which means that we have flexibility on which capability each role is responsible for between Agile and Product Management.*

What will you be doing?

You'll influence strategy and plans, translating those into clear, value–creating product roadmaps, delivering those roadmaps through programmes and releases, and continuously improving day–to–day service.

As well as holding the overall ownership of that partnership with Fundraising and Trading, you will also:

  • Lead the relationship between the Technology SLT and Fundraising and Trading teams in the MFE Directorate. This means influencing with confidence and subject–matter knowledge, and building credibility every day, from strategic insight through to the delivery of critical products and services
  • Lead teams which define and deliver the specified outcomes and roadmaps for your portfolio, ensuring products, data and services meet expectations and continue to evolve in line with market, tech and data sector changes, so that CRUK achieves maximum value from its investment in these products
  • Lead annual and quarterly planning, funding and prioritisation processes, with complete focus on driving added value from outcomes and reducing the risk and cost of operations
  • Lead and develop completely inclusive and high functioning teams within your portfolio, across direct (circa 10–15 people) and matrixed (circa 30 people) reporting lines. Create and nurture a positive culture which recognises success, develops and drives high performance and rewards results to retain talent within the team and wider function.

This role is also directly responsible for our Product Management capability for the directorate, ensuring the line management of the capability as well as provision of training, skills and career development, upskilling teams in relevant, modern tools, techniques, technologies and ways of working; recruitment and partnering to build capacity and capability; and building CRUK's brand externally as an aspirational destination for great Technologists.

Who are we looking for?

In order to be successful in this role, you'll need a mix of the following experience:

  • Strong recognised experience of value–based and user–centric strategy, delivery and innovation in relevant Fundraising domains, including e–Commerce, Retail, Payments
  • Excellent people leadership, and collaboration with and influencing of peers and seniors across the organisation, especially within MFE and Technology and external partners. Compelling communication at a technical and non–technical level, adapted to the audience
  • Robust understating of core technology capability areas (eg. product management, user experience and design, engineering, service management) and the relationships and dependencies between them.

We're really looking for someone with the ability to engage, influence, upskill and build consensus with senior peers. You'll also have strong collaboration and leadership skills across various dimensions of a matrix structure given the teams and individuals you'll be responsible for.

What will I gain?

Without you we wouldn't be able to achieve our aim of seeing 3 in 4 people survive cancer by 2034. So, we want to reward you in as many ways as possible. Our benefits package includes discounts on anything from travel to technology, generous holiday allowance of 30 days and much more. We want to ensure that you have the best work/life balance possible, so we actively encourage a flexible working culture for all our roles wherever possible.

For most of our office–based roles you'll only be required to work from a specific location for 1 or 2 days a week on average.

If this sounds like you, then please do apply today!
