Would you like to work within our Information & Technology Team delivering infrastructure and application solutions to support the senior stakeholders across BAE Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Systems Engineer at our site in Yeovil or the North West.
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and deploying applications and toolsets to benefit the business processes. You will be using tools such as Kubernetes and Jenkins to deliver these products on physical and cloud environments. Whilst delivering solutions to drive senior business decisions, you will be partnering with and working alongside internal stakeholders of all levels to understand what problems they are trying to solve, and help them discover valuable, actionable insights from their business need.
You will as part of that team support the business with new business needs but also continuous improvement activities, such as identifying opportunities for automation.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior System Engineer:
Assist in the requirement gathering, design and development of new solutions to be used by the business.
Engage with customer representatives and with other internal functions as necessary to discuss technical issues.
Research problems and issues, gather information from a range of physical and informational sources, review defects on platform or assembly in order to gain a complete understanding of the problem and all relevant circumstances
Analyse problems related to platform and support system issues and generate proposed solutions.
Manage, coach and mentor more junior or less experienced staff, ensure that they understand the systems and protocols associated with the work and task ensure that their work is reviewed and approved.
Undertake work within the area of specialism, taking account of interfaces and approved data; disseminating to others in order to resolve problems and proactively recommend improvements.
Essential Skills;
General Linux experience
ITIL knowledge of the framework
Multi Container infrastructure experience – Kubernetes, helm and docker–compose.
Container creation, maintenance and update – Specifically docker
Good problem–solving abilities
