With careful selection of collaborative partners, the objective is to provide a service that will accelerate conceptual design phase, and with industry & academia assistance provide Leonardo UK accelerators into our core product & service portfolios.

For this is senior appointment, we are looking to recruit a candidate with a successful background in the technical leadership of technology engineering; taking low TRL designs through concept and feasibility phases.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience of leading the development and implementation of technology research, scouting and proposed implementation.

Senior technology leadership experience and management of technology, working in low TRL designs.
Demonstrable skills in developing and implementing strategic technologies into a business.
Experience of leading a wider team, good stakeholder engagement skills, both internally and externally.
A proven track record in developing and motivating technology adoption.
Previous experience of working to Executive level – including reporting / presentations etc.

Key Responsibility Areas

The successful candidate will work closely within multidisciplinary integrated project teams to provide technical leadership and expertise in the design and development of solutions to unique and challenging problems to support our Electronics, Helicopters and Cyber business, as well as looking at adjacent markets.

Responsible for the Engineering definition and content of the approved research programmes.
Accountable for defining the Engineering skills and resources required to execute the programmes.
Responsible for the Engineering delivery aspects to schedule and cost.
Responsible for maintaining the design process and ensuring there is an known and planned path to exploit the technology (Technology Routemap).
Responsible for the smooth transition of Concept & Feasibility (low TRL projects) into project exploitation.You must be self–motivated, able to take the initiative in customer discussions, be an effective team player who will lead a team, facilitate team members, and have efficient time management skills enabling you to work well either as part of a team or on your own.

You will be involved in various stages of technology & innovation from identification of new and innovative technologies or techniques, developing the concept through to prototyping of hardware design, integration and demonstration testing.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

You will have a degree in engineering or suitable science–based subject and a strong engineering leadership qualities with experience in :–

Hardware and software development,
Systems modelling & simulation techniques
Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
You will have excellent numerate problem–solving skills and an aptitude for lateral thinking.
The role will require strong communication skills, to convey complex subjects to peers and junior team members.
You must be a create thinker, have mental agility and speed of operation, to explore, make, re–make connections in pursuit of the creative concepts.
You should have a track record of facilitating and building good working relationships with team members and external members, e.g. suppliers and customers
