About the role
Here at Babcock International Group, we are recruiting for a Head of Commercial to join our Power Division. Reporting to the Director of Power, this role will form part of the Power business senior management team, and be responsible for achieving the commercial objectives of the business.

Babcock Power deliver on major projects in the utilities sector including, power transmission renewal schemes, overhead lines installation and renewals projects, with project values in excess of GBP30M.
As well as working on some of the most high–profile projects in the UK we also offer a supportive work environment where innovation is at the heart of what we do.

In this role, you will be responsible for heading up the Commercial, Bids & Planning functions for the business, and command a wider team of 15–20 specialists in these areas.

Key accountabilities will include delivering increased profit and/or maximising value and cash flow, identifying and managing risk within acceptable parameters, promoting and upholding good governance and resolving legacy and emerging commercial issues

Other key duties will include:

Identify opportunities in existing contracts for margin improvement
Lead or support new and existing contract negotiations
Ensure that risk and reward in new bids are well understood throughout the governance process
Actively manage risk and implement commercial solutions
Support supply chain activities to flow down contractual risk to suppliers
Manage the bids and contracts approval process in line with Group governance
Undertake contractual dispute resolution where necessary including mediation, arbitration, adjudication and litigation
Support mergers, acquisitions and disposals activity
Play an active role in the extended leadership team to identify opportunities for growth, challenge existing practises and embed an ethos of collaboration

What do I need to do the role?
You will have proven experience in Senior Commercial Management positions, ideally within highly regulated industry sectors i.e. Power Infrastructure, Rail, Civils, Construction or similar

Would also like you to have the following experience:

Background as a qualified/chartered Quantity Surveyor is preferred
Proven negotiation skills including resolution of disputes
Strategic thinker capable of generating innovative commercial proposals
Ability to identify and analyse commercial risk and propose effective mitigations
Experience of complex bids and dispute resolution
