About The Role
Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Managing Director, this role will develop and implement the operational strategy for phs Greenleaf through continuous improvement and strong leadership of the field service team. Strive to exceed service excellence whilst supporting business growth and revenue targets across a national customer base. The Operations Director will possess a high level of pace and ambition, an in–depth understanding of profit improvement programs and proven experience of building high performing field–based teams. The role requires demonstrable experience of horticultural delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Communicate the phs vision and strategy to all operational colleagues to ensure everyone understands the business priorities and the role they must play in supporting the success and growth of phs Greenleaf.
Lead, manage and coach, providing inspirational leadership and direction for the Operations teams.
Provide leadership in developing and implementing a culture of service excellence, working to embed the standards, behaviours and strategies needed to bring about lasting improvements in delivery in all service areas.
Provide effective line management, coaching and support to the team to enable them to deliver to the best of their ability.
Identify and nurture talent and play an active role in succession planning and people development initiatives.
Identify the training needs of the teams in order to ensure effective ongoing training and development at all levels.
Develop and maintain an intimate knowledge of the competitor landscape, product or service innovation, legislative changes and industry trends across the market sector.
Ensure that Legal, Regulatory and Company Health & Safety requirements are fully embedded to ensure we have a legal and safe working environment. Proactively and identify current and potential risks and put in place robust plans and processes to mitigate them.
Take ownership of quality within the business.
Lead and develop our technical capability.
Drive and review performance against the business plan and budgets through effective leadership and team management.
Develop a suite of Key Performance Indicators and Service Levels to measure performance against, helping to support continuous improvements and resource optimisation.
Build and maintain good professional working relationships with the other front–line teams, principally Sales, Account Management and Customer Service to ensure there is clear communication to deliver excellent customer service.
Support large strategic customer relationships at the most senior levels. Provide support and assistance to Sales in preparing for tenders.
Research new product and service opportunities. Identify desirable new products and services and liaise with sales and marketing to deliver to the marketplace.
Skills and Knowledge Required
Can demonstrate first class team leadership, pace, motivation and coaching skills effective for deployment across a wide spectrum of people and processes.
Proven success within an organisation that has a people focussed approach to service delivery.
A proven track record of operational success within a business to business environment across the UK.
Demonstrable experience of delivering horticultural services particularly interior landscaping and/or green walls.
Delivery of operational service contracts to the Hospitality or Leisure sector.
Knowledge of the UK waste and recycling legislation.
Knowledge of plant importing legislation.
Ability and passion to challenge existing practices and develop new ways of working.
Ability to engage with field technicians, both employed or sub–contractor, to drive productivity without negatively impacting quality.
Ability to support and encourage colleague's ideas and career development through motivation and leadership.
An understanding of business improvement processes and best practice.
Understanding and accurate analysis of financial information.
High level of commitment and ability to work at a fast pace.
Proven P&L or cost ownership and accountability.
Ability to work closely with all colleagues to establish constructive working relationships and mutual respect.
