An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Suffolk County Council (SCC) Public Health Team as a Deputy Director of Public Health working from Endeavour House.
Suffolk County Council are recruiting to a new Deputy Director of Public Health role, which is vital for driving forward the population health and inequalities agenda across Suffolk. You will be a key deputy for the Director of Public Health and provide leadership across the directorate, council, and the wider health system.
This exceptional opportunity offers the right candidate the perfect development pathway. You will be the "2nd in command" for the core public health aspects. You will also stand in for the Director of Public Health as and when necessary. It is a huge role and will give the right candidate all the tools they need in broadening their experience for future progression, whilst driving positive change for public health across Suffolk.
You will be joining a council with a history of excellent public health, though not without its challenges, and in your role as the Deputy Director of Public Health, you will take a lead role in their drive to reduce inequalities the county, ensuring the service user remains at the centre of everything they do and driving forward public health in Suffolk as they move towards the post COVID era.
Through your leadership of GBP25 million worth of public health commissioned services and budgets, you will have the opportunity to reshape delivery over the next few years as we work with our communities and partners to reimagine our public health offer. You will lead an experienced team of 30 specialists and practitioners and be comfortable with matrix working as we focus on directorate wide shared priorities and goals.
Core technical skills will be taken as a given but as importantly you will be an innovative, engaging leader who can empower colleagues to deliver without formal power. An ability to work in a political environment and communicate clearly with widely different groups such as residents, politicians, clinicians, senior managers and executive teams in health and local authorities is a must. You will need to be comfortable working with uncertainty and complexity.
We are committed to flexible working. To view the types of flexible or part time working available for this role, please see the Job and Person Profile.
