Specific Responsibilities:

QinetiQ is looking for a Programme Manager to lead the delivery of a portfolio of projects developing novel sensing and communications technology for military and defence customers. This role is responsible for the effective management and delivery of a portfolio of R&D and complex engineering programmes with a value of several million pounds. The portfolio is primarily focussed on the research and development of ISR sensing and novel Free Space Optical Communications capabilities. There is potential for significant growth in this portfolio with opportunities across multiple major MOD programmes and the opportunity to exploit the IP with a number of global defence companies.

As a Programme Manager you will be expected to develop and grow customer relationships with MOD and commercial customers, lead major bids, support complex bids, secure associated follow–on sales and successfully contribute to the overall strategy and business targets. Whilst based in Malvern, you may be required to travel within the UK, Europe and the US, as necessary.

This appointment is in the Security Technology Integrated Delivery Team (IDT), part of the QinetiQ's Cyber Information and Training business. You will report directly to the Security Technology IDT Leader (IDTL) and will be responsible for the line management of two Senior Project Managers who will assist in the delivery of the portfolio of projects. The delivery team consists of a multi–disciplinary engineering team including systems, software, electronic and mechanical engineers and a number of applied scientists.

Key Accountabilities:

As a programme manager you will be responsible for the delivery of their project portfolio to the agreed baseline (customer satisfaction, time, cost, quality, cash and sales).

This will include responsibility for:

Stakeholder engagement to ensure that we delight the customer whilst maintaining cost control, risk management, project scope and meet our contractual requirements.
Ensuring the application of governance to meet our financial, H&S and regulatory obligations.
Managing a multi–disciplinarey team to deliver complex technical product development.A key aspect of this role will be focussed on customer relationship management. As part of this role you will be expected to identify, develop solutions and bids to solve customers' problems to maximise benefit to both our customers and QinetiQ.

Knowledge, skills and Personal Qualities Required:

You will need to have strong leadership and communications skills with the ability to lead a multi–disciplinary team of scientist and engineers. You should have experience in both internal and external stakeholder management and experience in negotiation and conflict management. You will have a proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects and/or product development.

Essential Qualifications:

MSP Practitioner qualification.
Demonstrable capability to International Project Management Association Level A.
Experience gained, typically rather than necessarily, between 5–8 of leading a business, projects, programmes, portfolios or P3 function; successful delivery of complex programmes.
Requires proven track record in delivering complex engineering projects, dealing with demanding timescales, uncertainty and risk.
Experience delivering programmes to numerous customers.
