The University of Strathclyde is one of the most dynamic and ambitious higher education institutions in the UK. Building on our Enlightenment roots as a "place of useful learning", we are a socially progressive institution, recognised for engagement with business and industry, world–class teaching and research and deep commitment to innovation and enterprise. With a portfolio spanning engineering, science, business, humanities and social sciences, Strathclyde is differentiating itself as a leading international technological university, filling a significant gap in the UK's HE sector by developing technology–driven solutions to societal problems, and informing public policy development.
We are now seeking to appoint an outstanding individual as deputy Director of the Cancer Research UK Formulation Unit. The Unit is based within the Strathclyde Institute for Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS) and is a unique, internationally renowned and MHRA cGMP licensed academic facility for the pharmaceutical research and development of new anti–cancer drugs for clinical trials. The Deputy Director is a substantive, highly practical and active research management position that will significantly contribute to the strategic directionand leadership of a large research and functional group within SIPBS.
It is envisaged that the suitable appointee will be considered for succession planning to replace the present Director before September 2025.
The post requires high level function in multiple pharmaceutical research and development areas for oncology Phase I/II clinical trials, contributing practical skills as well as strategic direction, management and guidance, incorporating team and staff management, mentoring and support. We are therefore looking for suitably qualified candidates with a successful track record of pharmaceutical research and development for clinical trials, preferably within a GMP setting, and demonstrable experience of leading and motivating teams. Eligibility for registration as a Qualified Person with the MHRA is desirable.

The University of Strathclyde is committed to achieving and promoting equality and diversity among our staff and welcome applications from underrepresented groups.
