Chief Engineer and Technical Authority (Submarine Combat System)

Would you like to be a part of a fantastic submarine combat system team? We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Chief Engineer & Technical Authority at our BAE Systems site in either Filton, Broad Oak or Weymouth.

As a Chief Engineer and Technical Authority, you will be formally and legally accountable to the Submarines Engineering Director for safe, legal & compliant designs and products in relation to all Integrated Combat Systems programmes of work. You will have responsibility for the sub–ordinate technical and design authorities in conjunction with Integrated Combat Systems Engineering Authority. You will provide day to day feedback on technical performance of programmes and have oversight, influence and authority over the technical plans of ICS products and services.

Within this role you will have a close and trusted working relationship with the UK Submarine Delivery Agencies. As well as major systems approving authority for the combat systems working across all classes of UK submarine in operation or in process of acquisition.

Your main responsibilities as a Chief Engineer and Technical Authority will involve:

Design responsibility:

'Ownership' of the Requirements that define the high level product to be developed or traded;
Definition of an appropriate combat system architecture to maximize capability, affordability and commonality across all classes.Operational Delivery Responsibility:

Oversee the activities of subsidiary technical authorities for platform combat systems and combat system subsystems
Ensuring that all activities of the CSTA and (Office of the CSTA) support schedule adherence and delivery into programme or project of a compliant product.Functional Governance responsibility:

Provide technical and functional leadership and direction to combat systems technical authorities.
Support the wider submarines engineering community, through involvement in developing policy and standardised processes, sharing good practice.Product Safety

Accountability to the Engineering Director for ensuring the application of Product Safety arrangements which comply with Corporate Product Safety Policy (759/OF/006), contract requirements and applicable laws, regulations and standards.

Your skills and qualifications:

Chartered Engineer or equivalent experience
Highly developed understanding of military combat systems, ideally within a submarine context
Extensive experience in complex safety integrity management and product certification within a 'system of systems' hierarchy
Extensive experience dealing with senior leaders in often challenging circumstances to ensure technically acceptable solutions to delivery commitmentsWhat we're looking for in you:

You will have the ability to analyse challenging problems and identify, evaluate and implement possible routes to solution. You will be use to working with different levels of stakeholders and must be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the business and customer community.

Integrated Combat Systems:

Integrated Combat Systems is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers. Our team is responsible for system design, build and/or procurement of the major electronic and mechanical systems on a submarine, as well as provision of test, integration and support services.
