Group Financial Controller

Reporting of the Role

This role reports to Finance Director – Operations

Overview of job

Reporting to the FD – Operations, the Group Financial Controller will manage, lead and ensure all accounting, statutory requirements and reporting is completed for the group business

Measures of success –

In the first few months, you would have

  • Built a good working relationship with the Reporting and Treasury team as well as with senior finance staff
  • Gained an understanding of the various component parts of the group, liaising with senior management across functions
  • Implemented planning with the incoming auditors for a smooth transition
  • Worked with the Treasury team to introduce robust cash forecasting reporting within the new accounting system
  • Completed the integration of the Outdoor and Audio statutory reporting functions to ensure a coordinated group approach going forward
  • Implemented a robust balance sheet reporting framework across the entire group
  • Put in place an indicative timetable for the March 2022 audit
  • Worked with senior finance management to implement the switch away for LIBOR for bank and other loans

Responsibilities of the role

  • Leading a team of 7, responsible for all financial and statutory reporting for the group including the Group accounts and 200 subsidiary company accounts
  • Lead role in setting accounting policies, control framework and advising the finance team and wider business on all related issues
  • Stay up to date on changes to accounting standards, best practice and technical changes and ensure implementation within the group
  • Manage the corporate structure of the group, working closely with the Company secretary, to ensure governance is appropriate
  • Responsible for treasury within the group, including day to day banking, foreign currency transactions and relationship with clearing banks
  • Assisting the FD – Operations and CFO in managing the debt of the group which includes the bank facility, covenant compliance and relationships with 5 lender banks, as well as the shareholder debt.
  • Key role in managing the audit process and dealing with the Group auditor.
  • Responsible for the balance sheets of the Group, ensuring all reporting, reconciliations and appropriate reviews are carried out.
  • Participate as part of the senior management team within finance in helping the CFO setting strategy, objectives and people plans
  • Ensuring timely provision of group balance sheet and cash flow information for group reporting

What you will need

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:

  • Significant experience of working in a senior role in a finance team. Media or advertising experience an advantage but not essential
  • You will have managed and developed people with a range of different levels of seniority
  • Excellent technical accounting knowledge including understanding of accounting standards, preparing complex consolidated accounts and a good working knowledge of other specialisms including tax and treasury.
  • Qualified accountant with a track record of career progression in a large, dynamic organisation
  • To demonstrate a track record of driving change, improvement and challenge
