Our client is one the UK’s leading cloud services businesses. Private Equity backed, the group is driving high growth in each of its service divisions. A relatively new division offers Azure and Amazon Web Services business cloud solutions to business customers. This division is expected to grow rapidly over the next few years and will become a key strategic cornerstone of the whole group. The division has three main revenue lines: platform, support and set up / consultancy.

A Commercial Financial Controller role is being created to lead the finance function for the division.

The Role

Reporting to the Group Finance Director this is a broad role whose remit encompasses both strategic and day-to-day and ranges across business partnering, financial management and financial planning and analysis (FP&A). Key responsibilities include:-

Build relationships with the Sales and Technical teams, specifically in areas of:

Business Partnering: Support the Sales and Technical teams in Demand planning; Capacity planning; Utilisation efficiency; Standard costing - build a framework to help identify the profitability of the support and consultancy revenue lines within the division; System - take ownership of the third-party gateway system that is used to interrogate the AWS and Azure clouds for revenues and costs.

Financial management: Ensure accuracy of P&L; prepare and review Management Accounts; Reconciliation of revenue and costs by customer to source operating system and AWS and Azure cloud platforms; Margin management - ensure consistency across periods for platform revenues, and report on utilisation rates as part of margin reporting on support and consultancy revenues; Financial controls and processes; Presentation of monthly reporting pack.

Financial planning and analysis: create and maintain robust forecasting and budgeting models; KPIs – build a set of metrics through which to monitor performance; Variance analysis.

The Candidate
  • Qualified accountant with experience of working with Azure and / or AWS billing (essential);
  • A strong communicator, able to understand and explain complex issues;
  • Strong analytical skills including ability to build models to interrogate data;
  • A driven and confident individual who is keen to develop as the business grows;
  • At ease working at all levels from Group CEO to dealing with day to day basics.
