Group HR Director

At DEFRA we deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly affect people's lives. We are here to make our air purer, our water cleaner, our land greener and our food more sustainable. Our mission is to restore and enhance the environment for the next generation, leaving it in a better state than we found it. As we move to a new phase having left the EU, we will lead on our new responsibilities for EU repatriated functions, drive the country's sustainable recovery from the impacts of Covid–19, and support the Government's agenda to level up and build back better for all.

Our people are central to the work that we do, and we are now seeking a Group HR Director to lead the delivery of a complex and ambitious people agenda. We currently have an HR team of 174 people and a budget of c.GBP22M. Our HR team has risen to the challenges linked to resourcing the department, supporting the pivot to homeworking and the health and wellbeing of our staff. In parallel we're continuing the work on the definition of the future operating model for HR and associated transformation.

To succeed in this role, we require an experienced HR professional, who is able to lead a complex business as usual agenda in a large–scale organisation, with the ability to set and deliver a strategic transformational vision. You will need to be confident operating as a member of an executive or senior leadership team, and able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
