The Role
Our public affairs and policy work is changing the national conversation about domestic abuse, with both national and locally based elected representatives and the officials, colleagues and stakeholders who work alongside them putting the voice of survivors at the heart of political thinking to keep families safer sooner.
Our Head of Public Affairs and Policy ensures that those with the ability to make change, because of the funding or policymaking role they hold, understand what our data–driven evidence, practice expertise and survivor voices are telling us about how to stop domestic abuse in the UK. In this role, you will build on our successful influencing work, in pursuit of our Whole Picture strategy, stopping harm before it happens, challenging perpetrators to change, increasing safety for those at risk and supporting survivors to live the lives they want.
You’ll have strong leadership skills, developing the public affairs team, working alongside all our key teams and extending our growing network of partners and stakeholders to shape policy and our public affairs programme to support our programmes, including our training and practice advice for professionals.
You will be an experienced public affairs specialist with an excellent track record in policy influencing and extensive political contacts. You will build new relationships to enhance our influence and the profile of our partnership work across the UK, as well as maintain really great relationships with those who currently call on our existing Head of Public Affairs and Policy for advice and input.
We welcome team members who have themselves had an experience of domestic abuse, either directly or indirectly, whether they choose to discuss this openly or not, and we actively encourage applications from disabled, Black, Asian and racially minoritised candidates as they are under–represented at SafeLives.
Benefits include a generous package including 25 days’ holiday per year plus public holidays, employee pension scheme with 4% employer contribution, Cycle2Work scheme, 365 days a year Employee Assistance Programme and provision for some home working.
If this challenge sounds as exciting to you as it does to us and you believe you have the qualities we have described, please take a look over the job description and submit a 500–word cover letter, CV and equal opportunity form.
Closing date: 25 June 2021.
