Leonardo has a unique opportunity for a Lead Systems Engineer to further their professional development in an organisation at the forefront of avionics technology, products, and capability innovation on the high–profile defence collaboration, Tempest. This project is laying the groundwork for the essential air capability of the next generation and the Lead Systems Engineer will have a key role is shaping that capability.
The Lead Systems Engineer will be responsible for delivering the systems engineering activities to influence the development of a next–generation Electronic Warfare (EW) system as part of a revolutionary future combat aircraft.
The Lead Systems Engineer will mature the delivery approach and oversee the execution of activities alongside key stakeholders, including Chief Engineers and senior Engineering Managers, to ensure the systems engineering teams within their area of responsibility produce outputs key to the project. Additionally, the Lead will work within and influence the integrated project team across the Major Air Programmes line of business for Leonardo on behalf of the systems domain.
As a result, strong technical, delivery, and people leadership abilities are essential in this role.

What you will do
Lead the integrated delivery of systems engineering activities within the Tempest TDP Electronic Warfare project, providing technical direction, managing project deliverables, and providing mentoring and guidance to team members.
Lead a talented group of systems leaders to ensure all systems activities are aligned to the overall project direction.
Foster strong relationships with engineering managers and technical experts to ensure deliveries meet required standards.
Act as the Chief Product Owner for the project utilising a layered Agile approach for planning, road–mapping and incremental deliveries.
Act as the focal point for systems within the wider integrated project team, negotiating with people from diverse disciplines to deliver the appropriate solutions for the customer.
Manage the execution of all systems engineering activities iaw agreed budgets, statements of work, and schedules, including the capture and proactive management of risk.
Monitor and report on KPIs to assess (e.g.) cost, progress, maturity, risk, etc.
What we are looking for
You really must have:
Strong experience of delivering demonstrations and trials with the ability to determine and employ the most appropriate methods for a given need / criteria.
Strong experience of influencing system design within an integrated team of engineering disciplines.
Strong experience of delivering engineering projects using Agile methodologies.
Strong experience in stakeholder management within organisations and with customers (internal or external)
Experience of electronic warfare systems, technologies and their design.
Experience of team leadership; driving delivery alongside proactive people management to create a high–performing team environment.
Experience of work package management; planning, tracking, and reporting of key metrics.
A degree, or equivalent, in a STEM subject and strong numerical, analytical and design skills, with the ability to apply these to real world problems.
Self–motivated with a strong aptitude for problem–solving and decision–making within projects involving design complexity and uncertainty.
Willingness to apply for or currently hold Developed Vetting (DV) clearance
It would be nice if you had:
Experience of the planning, management, and delivery of air platform demonstrations and trials for complex air domain environments.
Experience of operating in military environments, particularly those focused in the air domain
