Our client is looking for a SHEQ Director to join their team in Nottingham. The role will involve leading the strategic and operational health and safety activity across the organisation to ensure awareness and compliance with legal, regulatory and company requirements are met, and high personal safety standards are promoted.

Main accountabilities:
??Establish and maintain health and safety policy and procedures in line with ISO 45001, for the business to deliver a fully integrated health and safety management system, together with the development and implementation of a health and safety strategy and associated action plans in line with the company business plan goals, to achieve high levels of safety performance.
??Lead the Health and Safety team to provide support, specialist advice and professional guidance to the business on relevant health and safety legislation, regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practice to ensure the company maintains compliance with all these requirements.
??Undertake audits against health and safety legislation, best practice, and ISO 45001 on operational teams to monitor performance and to maintain high levels of health and safety management.
??Lead internal communication and engagement exercises to raise awareness, knowledge and understanding of key health and safety issues across the workforce to an appropriate level.
??Deliver effective accident and incident investigations, ensuring that associated recommendations and lessons learnt are embedded into the health and safety management system and ways of working across the business.
??Collaborate with Environmental and Quality leads to ensure the continued development of the Integrated Management System with a focus on achieving workforce engagement, compliance, and continual improvement.
??Drive a culture of continual improvement across Integrated Management System, promoting the identification of key initiatives and collaboration with parties across the business to ensure standards of health and safety performance and competence are agreed and maintained.
??Establish and maintain effective relationships with key external parties to raise the profile of the business and promote collaboration and innovation across health and safety management. This is inclusive of, but not limited to, regulatory bodies, supply–chain organisations, external assessment bodies, advisory bodies, and wider industry–related forums.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
??NEBOSH Diploma / Degree or relevant equivalent qualification in Health & Safety and membership of a relevant professional body (i.e., IOSH).
??Proven experience in a similar role within highways and civil engineering.
??Experience of working to an accredited ISO 45001 Health & Safety system.
??Strong communication, influence, and engagement skills across all levels of an organisation and with external stakeholders.
??Experience of establishing and continuously improving Health & Safety processes, procedures together with understanding regulations and legislation that apply to the highway business.
??Proven ability to effectively lead and manage a team of Health & Safety Advisors and to organise and prioritise workload to meet the needs internal and external stakeholders.
