An exciting opportunity has arisen to join SSAFA in this strategically important and influential role.

We are looking for a highly experienced fundraising professional to lead the development of our community–based fundraising and income generation plans for SSAFA's UK and overseas network of branches and service committees, which provide a range of personal support services for serving men and women, veterans and their families both at home and abroad.

About the role

The Head of Network & Community Fundraising is responsible for developing and implementing SSAFA's strategy for regional and community–based fundraising across our network of UK–wide and overseas branches and service committees.

You will work closely with the other Fundraising Heads and Volunteer Operations teams to develop and implement a bold and ambitious strategy intended to transform the scale and breadth of our grassroots and community–focused fundraising activities.

This strategy will involve supporting our network volunteers to hold their own fundraising events alongside a growing team of regionally based fundraising officers winning and stewarding new partnerships with trusts and foundations, companies, membership organisations, events and individual supporters. Hence, a key part of your role will be to engage with the Branch and Service Committee Chairs, their officers and members and to build support for increasing fundraised income.

Reporting directly to the Director of Fundraising, the post holder is responsible for leading a team of regional fundraising managers – each with a specific geographical responsibility – as well as contributing to the leadership and management of the fundraising directorate and wider organisation as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

This role will require a high degree of travel across the UK, and particularly within the designated 'home' area, together with occasional but regular trips to the central office in London.

About you

You will most likely have broad and senior–level experience in the charity sector, as we are seeking a candidate who brings an expert knowledge of most traditional charity income streams and fundraising models. You will be able to demonstrate success in achieving ambitious growth in a team dynamic and be able to draw on that experience both in terms of developing fundraising strategies to achieve income targets, as well as the skill and judgement to adapt and implement those plans in the field.

You will have a highly developed level of emotional intelligence and the ability to deftly manage the expectations and priorities of multiple stakeholder groups. You are someone who can comfortably engage with people from all backgrounds and walks of life, whilst demonstrating exemplary adherence to the core values of the charity.

Due to the career backgrounds of many of our volunteers and our beneficiaries, lived experience of military life though not essential would be an advantage.
