Maritime Programme Manager

Role Purpose
Responsible for the safe, successful delivery of the assigned portfolio sales opportunities, projects and programmes within agreed targets within a Maritime Programmes area of the Combat, Communication and Information Systems Integrated Delivery Team.
* This role will have a significant impact to the success of the customer and to financial performance at Business level.
* The portfolio will manage the delivery of strategic growth related to the three global campaigns
o Test and Evaluation leveraging the development of increased connectivity of the site to UK ranges and overseas facilities
o Training leveraging the representative equipment and capabilities on site and connectivity to customer facilities
o Information Advantage – leveraging the representative facilities, connectivity and capabilities to exploit data to improve command decisions and deliver new capability
* As such, there will be close collaboration with the established programme lines within the Combat, Communication and Information Systems business. In addition, the portfolio will champion exploitation of the Communication Development and Integration Facility.
* As a newly formed portfolio a key aim will be to secure and build on early concept demonstrators to build pipeline opportunities in conjunction with BD/sales and backlog
Key Accountabilities
* For the first time customer acceptance of assigned projects: safely; within agreed budgets and schedule; ensuring compliance all applicable International & National Regulations and Standards, Defence Standards & Conditions and corporate policies whist achieving the agreed annual targets for revenue, milestone delivery performance, financial forecast variances and delivery margins.
* Delivering compelling value for money propositions in response to assigned customer requirements and leading their closure to contract to achieve agreed annual growth targets for the assigned programme/portfolio.
* The functional management and professional development of the assigned Project Management team.
* Contribute to QinetiQ's Project Management improvement planning and professionalism
* Develop and maintain relationships with the customers
* Management of external and internal stakeholders
* Development and delivery of follow–on work opportunities, working where appropriate with the sales team and global campaigns
* Generate accurate work load forecasts to support resource planning within the business and functions
* Effective communication to internal stakeholders of project progress, risks and timely escalation of project issues
* Conduct Lessons Learnt during the course and at the completion of delivery
Key Capabilities/Knowledge
* Project Management competence equivalent to IPMA level B
* Strategically focused
* Able to exercise good commercial judgement
* Strong negotiation skills
* Able to build confidence with senior stakeholders
* Relationship builder at senior levels
* Strong understanding of budgeting and resource allocation
Experience & Qualifications
* RPP qualification or equivalent
* Previous demonstrable experience of delivering research within the Maritime domain
* Degree qualified or equivalent
* Demonstrable experience in the application of the APM competencies and able to apply them in an engineering service environment.
* Demonstrable experience in the delivery of at least three complex projects or one complex programme.
* Demonstrable experience of successful delivery in a collaboration with other major industry participants.
* The ability to assimilate and re–communicate technical content.
* Able to mentor more junior project managers.
