This role is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join the White Rose Academies Trust on its journey to becoming World Class.

We are looking for a Business Director to be the strategic leader for all business and operational areas of The White Rose Academies Trust.

The White Rose Academies Trust is a Leeds–based multi–academy Trust with a reputation for raising ambitions, engaging local communities and rapid school improvement.

The Trust currently employs over 450 members of staff and is responsible for educating and developing almost 4,000 students between the ages of 3 to 16.

The Trust consists of three secondary schools – Leeds City Academy, Leeds East Academy and Leeds West Academy, and also recently welcomed its first primary school (Mill Field Primary Academy) on 1st December 2020.

The White Rose Academies Trust is a member of Luminate Education Group. Other members of the group include Leeds Conservatoire, Keighley College, Harrogate College and Leeds City College. The group provides leadership and operational support and advice to all our academies. They also share our vision of creating a truly outstanding Trust.

The Luminate Education Group is one of the largest education providers in the Yorkshire region, with over 30,000 students and 2,000 staff members, offering education from Early Years through to Higher Education.

Role:

The Trust Business Director will be accountable to the Chief Executive Officer in the discharge of their role.

The Chief Executive Officer is the Accounting Officer for the White Rose Academies Trust and is ultimately responsible for the financial performance and conduct of the institution.

Responsible for:

The Trust Business Director is the strategic leader for all business and operational areas of the Trust; this includes but is not limited to all the strategic areas outlined; catering services, IT services, finance services, estates management, HR services and compliance and legal services.

All post–holders at the White Rose Academies Trust are responsible for transforming the outcomes for learners and upholding the ethos of the academies. The five principles of the Children's Act: Every Child Matters, guide the work of every adult working at or associated with our Trust.

Responsibilities:

* The Trust Business Director will provide advice on strategic financial issues to the CEO and senior leaders across the Trust. The Trust Business Director will be responsible for the day to day financial management of the Trust and the leadership and management of the finance team.

* The Trust Business Director will work closely with the CFO – Luminate Education Group in ensuring that the Trust effectively delivers on its strategic financial plans. In addition, the Trust Business Director will work closely with the CFO – Luminate Education Group to ensure the effective delivery of the Group's overall strategic financial plans.

* The CFO – Luminate Education Group will act as a key advisor and professional mentor to the Trust Business Director.

* The Trust Business Director will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team – Luminate Education Group, in ensuring the successful implementation and ongoing development of Luminate Professional Services.

* The Trust Business Director will act as an advisor to the Trust board on all financial and strategic operational matters. The Trust Business Director will work closely with the CFO – Luminate Education Group in the effective discharge of this responsibility.

* The Trust Business Director is a key member of the Multi Academy Trust's Executive Leadership Team. They are expected to bring a modern, business–like approach to the leadership of the finance and operational functions, running these as a highly competent and efficient service with an emphasis on business partnership across all academies and with devolution of the service where appropriate.

* Develop and deliver a proactive, customer–focused service. The Trust Business Director will be supported in all aspects of their work by the Senior Strategic Operations Team. This team currently consists of two Academy Business Managers, two Operations Managers, a Senior HR Business Partner and the Finance Manager of the Trust. The Senior Strategic Operations Team is supported by a wide range of professionals based in the Trust's Central Team and in each of its academies.

* Ensure that the Trust makes the best possible use of resources through effective planning, considering all financial and other resource management implications. The Trust Business Director will ensure that all decisions in relation to the use of financial resources meet all value for money principles and adhere fully with the Academies Financial Handbook.

* Responsible for all aspects of financial management, including payroll, exchequer services, the management of financial records, resource allocation and budget control, financial planning (strategic and operational), the financial management of projects, funding relationships with the funding body and other agencies and related contractual arrangements with external organisations.

* Ensure that the impact of an astute business development financial strategy and the management of this directly impact on educational outcomes for White Rose Academies Trust students.

* The post–holder will ensure that the systems and processes around the financial management and functions relating to this element of the Trust are efficient, reliable and quality assured through internal controls and processes, internal and external audit and remain a key feature of how well the Trust is managed – for both existing academies but also any prospective academies or stakeholders.

* The Trust Business Director is responsible for the creation and implementation of an industry leading sponsorship and income generation plan.

* As a Key Member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Trust Business Director will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the Trust.

Main Duties:

* Ensure that the White Rose Academies Trust resources are managed effectively, ethically, professionally, with integrity, conforming to all internal and external regulatory requirements in a sustainable, timely and professionally sound manner according to identified best practice.

* Providing strategic advice to the Chief Executive Officer, Trust Board and associated committees, Principals, governing bodies and senior managers on all issues relating to finance and operational matters.

* Working closely with the CFO – Luminate Education Group to ensure that the Trust's financial operations and performance provides full assurance to the Group as the Sponsor.

* Working closely with the CFO – Luminate Education Group, to develop and deliver Luminate Professional Services across the Group.

* Preparing all Trust monthly reports, annual financial forecasts, returns to the ESFA, forecasts for corporate strategies and plans in consultation with the CEO and senior colleagues, and developing and implementing strategies for maximising the Trusts current finances. The Trust Business Director will work closely with the CFO – Luminate Education Group in the successful implementation of this duty.

* Managing the finance team, including reviewing the current structure and overseeing the development and maintenance of financial systems and procedures, including appropriate IT systems.

* Being accountable to the CEO for the financial operations of the Trust and Academies.

* Be a catalyst for driving efficiencies across the Trust – including leading on the year–on–year reduction in spend across key categories such as utilities, consumables, insurances, external support contracts and other unfunded discretionary spends.

* Act as the leading point of reference for commercial and financial issues, as well as participating in the management of major academy projects, which may include potential growth, as required by the CEO.

* Contribute to the ethos, development and success of the White Rose Academies Trust.

* Assist in formulating the Trust's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.

* Monitor and develop strategic business plans.

* Develop financial and tax strategies.

* Implement operational best practices.

* Supervise acquisitions, undertake due diligence and negotiate conversions.

* Provide strategic recommendations to enhance financial performance and new business opportunities.

* Ensure internal controls are in place and in full compliance with the Academies Financial Handbook and applicable regulatory legislation for financial and tax reporting.
