This Principal Systems Engineer role will see the successful candidate join the Systems Engineering team within the Major Air Programmes (MAP) business area, and take a key role in the development of electronic systems for the UK?s 6th Generation Future Fighter Aircraft within the Tempest Programme.

MAP Engineering is based at Luton with the wider team located mainly at our Edinburgh and Southampton sites. MAP is systems integrator of sensing, defensive aids and communication systems for integration onto the Future Fighter Aircraft. This is an exciting stage of the programme, generating innovative novel concepts with the wider Tempest Consortium and the MOD Customer.

Working within a multi–disciplined team, the Principal Systems Engineer will be responsible for managing requirements across the whole lifecycle using the IBM Rational DOORS requirements management tool. The role will include capturing and analysing stakeholder and internal requirements, maintaining full traceability at all levels, and documenting the results of verification activities to demonstrate compliance.

What you will do

Working across the full engineering lifecycle.
Setting up and managing DOORS databases, specifically version 9.x.
Interfacing DOORS to other engineering design and development tools.
Developing bespoke functionality within DOORS using DXL.
Capturing, analysing, reviewing and specifying requirements.
Managing all levels of requirements to enable design and development decisions.
Influencing requirements and design decisions
Managing test and requirements traceability to achieve certification and delivery.
Working with and influencing key project stakeholders.
Employ your understanding of airborne electronics technology, performance, operational capabilities, and use.
Actively support knowledge sharing and exploitation of best practice.
Travel within the UK abroad to meet with our customers and industry partners.

What we are looking for

You really must have:

High proficiency in multi–stakeholder requirements elicitation, negotiation, definition, traceability, and evidence–based compliance, for large / complex projects.
Highly skilled in the use of IBM Rational DOORS (v9.x) incl. DXL Scripting.
Experience of working across, the Systems Engineering lifecycle.
Self–motivated with a strong aptitude for problem solving and an ability to drive difficult issues to conclusion in support of team goals.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience of delivery to a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying seniorities.
Experience/strong understanding of airborne defence sensor systems.

It would be nice if you had:

Knowledge of military passive/active RF, electro–optic sensor systems or military communications.
Experience of work package management at all stages of project delivery – cost and schedule planning, execution, and reporting
