Leonardo has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to work on several large, high–profile projects. The Senior Systems Engineer will join the Combat Air business group and a role within the Systems Engineering team will provide exposure to a wide–variety of Electronic Warfare (EW) products and subject–matter experts within domain, product, and technology fields.

The Senior Systems Engineer will focus on the development of airborne RF EW sub–system products to be integrated within a larger EW system architecture. The role entails applying knowledge of Model–Driven Engineering (MDE) with a bias towards model–based design, utilising simulated and hardware environments to support the design and development of these systems.

What you will get:

Advanced Technology: : You will be at the forefront of the provision of a truly significant UK defence programme, working on one of the most advanced EW products Leonardo has developed.
Influence: You will be able to apply your knowledge and experience to influence the next generation of airborne EW systems.
Continuous Learning: You'll be supported in your ongoing professional development though training and mentoring.
Teamwork: You will work alongside like–minded professional engineers in a highly collaborative environment.
Connections: You will be joining an expansive team of around 7,000 people at six major sites across the UK.
EW Heritage: We are proud of our rich heritage in EW, with 100 years of pioneering EW development. Today we're providing the latest advances in sensor technology and enabling our customers to keep pace with an ever–evolving EW environment.

What you will do

Engage in the collaborative design of an advanced EW RF sub–system.
Gain a deep understanding of the EW sub–system and the wider system architecture in which it fits.
Implement complex Simulink and MATLAB based control systems for EW systems.
Create and develop document specifications and reports to capture design and analysis activities.
Evaluate concept designs, perform trade–off studies, and evaluate results.
Present key findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholder groups.
Support engineering design reviews by supplying relevant material
Attend technical meetings and workshops with customers and industry partners.

What we are looking for

You really must have:

A solid foundation in a relevant technical domain, exploited in an airborne (ideally EW) systems context / application.
Experience of software–based digital system controllers applied across some / all of the following domains: automotive / avionics / weapon systems.
Knowledge of MDE including model–based design and integration with development environments.
Strong proficiency in using mathematical modelling tools such as MATLAB and Simulink, and experience of applying these tools to solve engineering problems and develop products.
Experience of supporting design / delivery teams to develop complex, technical solutions in accordance with plans and processes.
Self–motivated with an aptitude for problem solving and driving difficult issues to conclusion.
Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying seniorities.
Ability to obtain SC Clearance for UK–caveated programmes.

It would be nice if you had:

Auto–coding MATLAB and Simulink to C++ is highly desirable but not essential.
Experience of mentoring junior engineers
