Leonardo has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Electronics UK business. The Senior Systems Engineer will take a prominent role in delivering world leading sensor solutions across a variety of military platforms including fast–jets, helicopters and unmanned air vehicles.
Working within the Integrated Mission Solutions (IMS) business group, the Senior Systems Engineer will develop specialist desktop toolsets that are used both to configure sensor systems with mission–specific capabilities and to replay and analyse, post–mission, the data recorded by these sensors. The toolsets are a major contributor to aircraft survivability and enhancing future mission effectiveness.
The Senior Systems Engineer will require experience of working within an agile development environment and across the full systems engineering lifecycle, with particular knowledge of requirements elicitation, definition and decomposition. The role inherently requires a strong aptitude for problem solving and an ability to understand complex interdependencies, as well as managing potentially conflicting inputs from multiple stakeholder groups.
Due to the nature of the tasks involved, you must be able to satisfy the necessary security clearance for the role and meet a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK.
What you will get
Advanced Technology: You will have the ability to contribute to the development of market–leading product development, providing advanced capability and protection to UK military platforms.
Agile Systems Engineering: You will apply and develop your knowledge of systems engineering in a fast–paced and dynamic agile development team.
Sensor Expertise: You will work with subject–matter experts with extensive and detailed knowledge of the sensor domain, technology, performance, and operational capabilities
Continuous Learning: Whether it is sensor systems, engineering lifecycle processes, leadership, or personal development, you will be supported in your ongoing professional development though training and mentoring.
Teamwork: You will work alongside like–minded professional engineers in a highly collaborative environment.
Connections: You will play an instrumental part in an expansive team of around 7,000 people at six major sites across the UK.
Heritage: You will be joining an organisation with over 100 years of history. Today we are providing the latest advances in sensor technology, spanning the electromagnetic spectrum, and your technological impact can influence the next 100–year legacy.
What you will do
Create the next generation of sensor planning, programming, and analysis toolsets (desktop applications) to support in–service and future combat aircraft.
Elicit and anticipate future user needs and requirements with which to guide the product design and develop the system architecture.
Influence customer satisfaction by applying your knowledge to develop effective solutions.
Develop operational use cases to help define and shape system requirements, design, and use.
Contribute to the prioritisation of user stories within an Agile backlog list to be executed within sprint cycles, considering any risks or dependencies.
Actively engage with the development team through all agile planning and review stages.
Communicate key messages and metrics to relevant stakeholders, e.g. ensure that design decisions are clearly documented and shared with the team.
Assess system design compliance and traceability against user and system requirements.
Assist in the development and delivery of engineering specifications, reports and presentations to customers and industry partners.
What we are looking for
You really must have:
High proficiency in requirements elicitation, definition, decomposition and traceability maintenance.
An aptitude for problem solving and driving difficult issues to conclusion.
Experience of agile systems / software development for product delivery to external customers.
Excellent verbal and written communication / collaboration skills.
Experience that includes knowledge of the product lifecycle, management of risk and associated trade–offs and working at a systems level.
It would be nice if you had:
Knowledge of passive / active sensor systems (e.g. signal processing and identification).
Knowledge of Electronic Warfare (EW) operations and countermeasure systems
An understanding of airborne EW detection / countermeasure system and Radar system concept of operations.
Knowledge of mission planning, mission data generation, and mission analysis.
Knowledge of web–based / micro–service architectures.
An understanding of issues associated with managing large data repositories.
Experience of Microsoft Azure for lifecycle management.
Experience of MathWorks products.
Experience of working alongside military end–users (e.g. to provide subject matter expertise).
Experience of use case development
