Director/Head of Governance and Performance

Six Months Contract

Middlesex

GBP80,000 (pro rata)

The purpose of this role is to take overall responsibility for the governance of our client's Local Authority organisation, providing appropriate and robust advice to Executive and Non–Executive Directors and the Chairs of Boards about their legal obligations. The successful applicant will ensure compliance with the Group's legal responsibilities and provide leadership, influence, vision, challenge, direction and support across the businesses.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Working effectively as a member of the senior leadership team, delivering corporate objectives and being a role model for effective and positive leadership behaviour that is outcome focused.

* Demonstrating and ensuring high standards of probity and compliance with company policy and the law.

* Working as part of and lead multi–disciplinary project teams to foster collaboration and delivery of transformational projects.

* Inspiring and instigating positive changes within the organisation taking responsibility for ensuring any changes implemented are embedded.

* Establishing a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with external parties, including customers, advisors and external contractors.

* Promoting equality of opportunity and the recognition of diversity in the delivery of services and in employment practices.

* Contributing to the development and implementation of the Group's vision, values and strategic priorities.

* Working proactively with the Director for Corporate Services, Managing Directors, the Executive Team, the Boards of Directors and other senior stakeholders and partners to develop successful customer focussed partnering relationships.

* Leading the Governance and Performance team in building effective working relationships with the relevant Executive Team members and their teams, customers and partners.

* Holding expert subject matter knowledge relevant to the role and lead teams in this area such as company governance and ICT/Digital, as examples.

* Providing objective challenge and taking a pro–active role in looking for opportunities to work with managers to deliver services more efficiently and effectively.

Person specification:

* A detailed knowledge of the workings of Local Government and trading companies and the wider environment in which they operate.

* A knowledge of, and commitment to, good customer service.

* Experience and understanding of the regulatory requirements of the sector and the principles of good governance and the Company Secretary role.

* Significant experience in public and private service organisations including overall responsibility for company governance in a large organisation.

* Significant experience of providing governance advice to Boards of Directors.

* Knowledge of the development of high–quality ICT and digital services.

* Proven experience of managing professional staff with experience of the performance management and development of staff.

* Well–developed analytical skills and proven ability of setting and achieving strategic objectives through performance management and evaluating service quality.

* Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels and stakeholders, to negotiate and network through highly developed written, oral and presentation skills.

* Ability to lead, motivate and enthuse individuals and teams within a rapidly changing environment.
