Supply Chain & Operations Director
Based Stockton–On–Tees
Salary around GBP70k + Car.
Manufacturing company – Turnover around GBP5m
Purpose of role:
Actively participate in the setting of strategy to meet the objectives of the Investor board. Lead supply chain and operations function to ensure goods are bought at correct price, stocked at correct levels, direct costs are kept within budget and goods are shipped out to customer on time and in full. Oversee product packaging in conjunction with product management.

121 meeting notes for each direct report filed on HR system by 15th of each month
OTIF of 99%
Direct expenses within budgeted % for sales
Note: not all of these are currently available due to the technology contstraints but it would be expected that the candidate assists in setting these up.
Supervisory responsibility:
Deputy to Supply Chain and Operations Director (5 warehouse staff report to this role currently), Operations Co–ordinator
Strategic responsibilities:
Actively participate in Annual strategic planning process to form strategy to achieve invester board objectives
Develop clear strategic plan for operations and supply chain for next year
Identify and unblock operational constraints that will prevent strategic plan being realised
Formulate a clear resource plan including recruitment needs for next 12 months
Oversee capital investment program for areas of responsibility for next 12 months
Clear 12–month future view of system improvements / implementations within supply chain and operations
Carry out zero budgeting on owned budget lines and feed into annual budget process
Ability to clearly articulate company vision and purpose
Drive strategic projects as required (eg ERP implementation, supply review procedure etc)
Be role model in company of company values
Tactical responsibilities:
* Detailed 12–month plan of what activities supply chain and operations team will complete to meet strategic objectives
* Lead team to drive down stock value and drive up stock accuracy
* Activity participate in forecasting S&OP process
* Lead and inspire whole department to be best they can be
* Ensure robust accountability for each team member including job description, weekly lead measures and meeting schedule
* Manage HR responsibility for supply chain and operations team within guidelines set by MD including remuneration, holiday requests and incentive schemes
* Recruitment and onboarding of new supply chain and operations staff within budget
* Hold direct reports accountable for their goals in line with 90 day planning cycle
* Sign off quarterly forecast with focus on potential savings and keeping within budget
* Work with Strategic Sourcing Director on negotiation with supplies to take cost out of product including remaining aware of commodity prices, labour rates and exchange rates
* Visit suppliers as required to engage and develop supplier relationships
* Agree supplier SLA's and monitor against agreement
* Contribute to supplier selection process
* Take ownership of Supply chain related NCR and drive closure
* Overall responsibility for health and safety within department
* Drive strategic warehouse improvement activity including capital investment
* Assist in identifying and clearing slow and obsolete stock
* Negotiate best value courier rates
* Overall responsibility for ensuring packaging is fit for purpose from market, freight, warehouse and product management perspective on every product
* Sign off purchase orders within sign off limits.
* Overall responsibility for the assembly area ensuring safety and efficiency
* Prepare monthly activity and variance report for MD
* Prepare 90–day plan for each quarter and report against last quarter
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
* At least 5 years' successful track record in a senior supply chain and or operations role dealing with warehousing, in house assembly and purchasing including global supply chains
* Excel, ERP, WMS and MRP system knowledge. Oracle Netsuite experience preferable but not essential.
* Clear understanding of purchasing, smart warehousing and simple nut and bolt assembly processing.
* Stock forecasting and international purchasing experience essential
* Ideally worked in a business while it has grown from GBP5m ish to GBP10m +
* Understanding of both blue chip corporate and family owned SME
