Operations Director – Dry Lining Contractor

This is a new opportunity. I am looking for someone who is currently working at Director level that has a strong operational background working for rival Dry Lining subcontractors in the UK, or someone who has hit a glass ceiling where they are and is in search of that next step up to Operations Director level because they are ready for it (again must be from a rival contractor though).

If you've worked in this sector at either of those levels, you'll know what is involved in the day–to–day duties; your position will sit on the board and will effectively report to the top of the business while overseeing the complete construction operations across 8–12 live sites where shell and core Dry Lining projects are being completed. You'll be expected to oversee and develop the site–based management and teams, while integrating with the various clients of the business to make sure projects are carried out in the correct manner. And yes, while programme deadlines, budgets and safety on every site is crucial to any successful contractor in this field, you'll also be one of the senior members of the team whose responsibility it is to develop client relationships and to make sure everything keeps moving in the right direction (and making improvements along the way too). I should highlight though; you won't be doing it all alone. The team at this business is exceptional. Their preconstruction department, technical department, safety department, delivery department, commercial department and every other part of the business is full of exceptional people and some of the best directors of each of their chosen fields. So, you'll be working with the best towards common goals, but to fit long term, you'll be expected to be up for the task either straight away or with time and effort when you're ready to fully step up.

About the Employer:

Having worked with this contractor for the past 5+ years I have seen them develop in both size and capability. As a group, The Dry lining business is their most well known however they have a Main Contract division, specialising in Fit Out and Shell and Core as well as separate Fire stopping and Glazing divisions with a turnover Circa GBP55m.

They typically focus on Dry Lining contracts ranging from GBP1m to GBP10m, however also have the capability and experience of delivering projects up to the value GBP18m. They repetitively work for a handful of the UKs Biggest Contractors, covering London's Major Construction Schemes, predominately within the commercial sector. Notably, this business has a very modern edge to the business while maintaining traditional roots.

About the Requirements:

To be successful I am looking for individuals who have worked in this position or who are ready for this position that have a strong background working within the Dry Lining sector.

It has also been specified that I am only to consider people who have held stable periods of time with each employer as this position is important and my client only wants to consider people who are in it for the long run.

I would expect that individuals will either be degree qualified in civil engineering or construction management but I can consider people from a trades background if they have proven experience at this level already. In realistic terms, it's not about just qualifications, its more about a proven ability to manage a construction division in this sector.

About the Remuneration:

This is a director level role, so obviously the package will fit the level of responsibility. So, I'm open to considering what people are currently on versus what they are looking for salary and benefits wise. There will also be the potential for the successful individual to earn a place on the board with all the benefits that come with that, as long at the successful candidate shows the capability in the role and gels well with the team as part of the future of the business (this has been mentioned).

So, in short, if you are successful in getting this opportunity you'll be paid well with benefits at every level down the road. All fantastic opportunities should offer fantastic rewards!

How to Apply:

I am more than happy to discuss this opportunity with people over the phone or face to face in a fully confidential manner. I know this is an incestuous sector and I fully understand the importance of keeping things discrete.

Alternatively, it would be ideal to see a copy of your CV (if you have one) or a profile of your background to understand your previous experience and employment. In line with GDPR, nothing will be done with your CV / details until we have discussed the role in detail anyway, but having gained an understanding of your formal past, this may help when we come to talk and discuss the option.
