We are looking for a creatively talented, ambitious, confident, detailed–oriented Head of UI Design who wants to work at the forefront of eCommerce design. The successful candidate must possess excellent leadership qualities, with the ability to maximise the talents of the UI team. You will work within a cross–functional creative team that designs online brand identities and interfaces which improve the user experience and ultimately increase conversion.

This role is ideal for a creative and strategic thinker, who has experience working in e–Commerce, gained working in a digital or creative agency or in–house design studio, and is passionate about UI design. You will have experience of shaping the strategy/vision of the UI department as well delivery of that vision through people and projects.

The ideal candidate would have a mixture of hands–on practical skills and managerial experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Creative Strategy & Direction
    • Help define a compelling Creative strategy and direction, demonstrating what good looks like, and bring a range of skills to help grow the UI offering within the CX team.
    • Be abreast of recent trends and help us make sure that our products are perceived as innovative, forward–thinking, and pixel perfect.
    • Oversee digital brand look & feel UI design systems, and pixel–perfect responsive interfaces for key clients, ensuring you consider usability and accessibility standards, and that you meet both user and business needs.
    • Working with Account Leads, CX Leads, fellow designers, developers, and clients as a part of the creative process, understand business drivers, and provide design leadership to clients and internal teams.
    • Apply your creative thinking and strong visual skills to ensure your designs meet the objectives of the brief. Pushing the creative execution of conversion–led design solutions, challenging and inspiring our accounts and clients.
  • Develop key client relationships, new business development
    • Drive the evolution of our existing UI design offer – input into our existing packages and help create new services that we can deliver for our clients.
    • Develop a go–to–market strategy covering target sectors/clients, how we will unlock opportunities, and who will be accountable for what. Drive the activation of these strategies.
    • Spend a significant amount of time out in the market, lead or contribute to the development of proposals and pitches bringing UI expertise
    • Clearly and persuasively communicate and present all stages of the design process to clients from concepts to solutions, proactively owning problems and feedback.
    • Build senior level trusted advisor relationships with clients
  • Recruitment, development & management of high performing design team
    • Provide leadership, mentoring, and direction to the UI team
    • Line management responsibility for the design team, checking quality, a best practice shared, commercials, growth, client CSAT, vision for an account.
    • Strong vision on how to scale the team effectively for growth – identify and attract external hires and freelance partners, develop these people into a highly capable, committed, and energetic team.
    • Inspire, champion, and develop a team of hardworking designers, ensuring their focus, passion and dedication is equal for both the day–to–day delivery of quality work and in striving for innovation and process efficiencies
  • Advocate and spokesperson for UI – internally & externally
    • Embed UI Design principles and methodologies within the CX team and the wider business, advocating UI Design best practices including new and innovative tooling and ways of working.
    • Develop and manage a strong partnership ecosystem across WTC, NN4M & Wunderman Technology to drive sales and delivery of the offer, ensure there is a regular and engaged flow of communication with these partners to ensure that collaboration on opportunities is always top of mind.
    • Industry spokesperson for WTC UI design, raising the profile of our team and work
  • Demonstrable eCommerce experience, across a range of sectors/audiences
  • Compelling portfolio that demonstrates high–quality design online, including eCommerce
  • Excellent leadership and management skills with a proven track record in developing and motivating high–performing teams.
  • Ability to think conceptually, lead the execution of online visual identity as well as being skilled in conversion–led design for transactional websites.
  • Have an outstanding eye for design and typography, excellent design skills, proficient in the latest versions of Figma, Sketch, Invision, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are essential.
  • Self–confident, self–motivated – great attitude, strong work ethic, excellent communication skills. Able to present concepts and design decisions.
  • Proven track record in adapting and taking on new challenges, driven to continually improve and make change happen.
  • Able to multi–task and perform well under pressure, comfortable working in a fast–paced environment, able to scope and oversee projects
  • Track record of building and maintaining relationships with internal and external senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management and problem–solving abilities.
  • Degree educated in Graphic design/UI or similar discipline
