Opportunity for a Business Intelligence Leader to join a large, market–leading multinational group, who provide services to millions of people on a daily basis as their Head of Business Intelligence & Data. This brand–new role within the business will have a great deal of variety, as they insource and carve out BI as a standalone department within their centralised shared IT service function.

A rare opportunity for a Head of Business Intelligence to draw on their experience in shaping a new BI function/service model, supporting transformational BI activities across all group businesses and working with leading cloud–native Business Intelligence technologies (AWS stack).

This is a large–scale, complex group organisation with many varying B2C and B2B business operations and tens–of–thousands of employees spread globally. As such, the data types and BI needs are widely varied and work will span from supporting existing, legacy solutions, to the transition of new solutions into service and ongoing operations and support. The mid–term view will be of shaping and leading the BAU/Run of Business intelligence services and technologies, however as the programme of solution delivery (of new tech) winds down, it is expected that the department will evolve into a broader business Intelligence Centre of Excellence.

What You'll be doing

Establishing and leading the group's Business Intelligence service function, setting strategy, building and leading a team in delivering operational and service excellence, supporting data and Business Intelligence related BAU and projects as required.

Key responsibilities will include;

Setting strategy and shaping working practices for a best–in–class Business intelligence Service function
Managing an effective team in providing data platform and BI operations and support to a variety of clients (varying business functions and group businesses).
Forecasting and planning to ensure required resourcing levels to support BAU and project requirements
Working closely with the programme team and business stakeholders right across the group, ensuring smooth transition of new data and BI solutions into service.
Upskilling and evolving team skills and capabilities to support new cloud native technologies including AWS Lambda, Spark, Glue, QuickSight etc.
Partnering with business stakeholders to drive enhancements, utilising data and BI capabilities to improve business performance
Managing budgets, including internal cross charging considerations
Managing a team of data and business intelligence analysts (2nd and 3rd line), setting clear objectives and driving performance
Lead the adoption Agile methodologies by facilitating learning and transforming ways of working.
Manage major incidents, problems etc – resolving any high priority or severe issues from customers or project teams.
Managing 3rd parties, building strategic, valued partnerships

A senior leader with breadth of skills and experience across data and business intelligence
Technical knowledge and skills across a variety of data and Busines Intelligence technologies, ideally including cloud (AWS or Azure) tools.
A proven ability to effectively build and manage high performing BI teams and/or departments, providing valued operations and services
An Agile champion with a track record of transitioning teams from waterfall to Agile and DevOps ways of working.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, confident in negotiating and influencing at senior levels.
Extensive knowledge and experience of the provision of Business Intelligence and Data solutions preferably with experience of managing BI as Service functions.
Be an ITIL expert – ideally qualified
A track record of successful, complex budget management
Experience of building strategic relationships with third parties and managing SIAM models.
