The Role
As a member of the senior management, you will devise and implement Group Health, Safety & Environment strategies including a roadmap of activity to ensure H&B retains compliance with all applicable Health & Safety and Environmental legislation – delivering continuous improvement and minimising the Health & Safety and Environment risks to staff, customers, suppliers and visitors in all H&B related activities whilst approaching matters commercially, pragmatically and strategically.
You will ensure that full legal compliance and Company standards are achieved and maintained across the business, working collaboratively with senior management and the Executive across all functions of the Business as well as external enforcement bodies to meet all legal requirements. You will also deliver EHS performance through continuous improvement and assurance of effective management systems, strategic initiatives, cultural development, change management and leadership. This role has responsibility for managing a team including 4 senior EHS Managers / Specialists, 2 International EHS Specialists and 2 Fire Risk Assessors.
As Europe's largest health and wellbeing retailer, you will have a broad international remit responsible for a varied portfolio of shops (circa 800 in the UK but many more worldwide), 3 Distribution Centres (UK / ROI / NL), a manufacturing plant in the UK and several head office locations.
Key Accountabilities include;
You will diligently lead and be accountable for the delivery of the H&B EHS Strategy
You will develop and mentor the relevant teams and ensure direct reports are engaged and motivated to perform to a high standard and deliver objectives.
As Group Head of Health, Safety and Security you will be a trusted Advisor to the H&B Executive on all matters relating to Health & Safety and Environmental, including Crisis Planning and Incident Management.
You will be the senior escalation for risks to Health & Safety Crisis and Incident issues impacting H&B in order that timely decisions are made to proactively protect the company.
You will present to the H&B Executive, sharing with them performance against the Health & Safety roadmaps and lessons learnt reviews following incidents, making recommendations for actions and continuous improvement in our processes and procedures.
You will lead, manage and develop a team of subject matter experts capable of delivering specialist services and will inspire a culture amongst your team of continuously raising performance expectations and driving the importance of effective succession planning. You will also build key relationships with the appropriate 3rd party suppliers to ensure successful delivery of all activity.
The Person
Ability to think commercially, pragmatically and strategically whilst ensuring full legal compliance is achieved and maintained where necessary
Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and "the grey areas" – able to take decisions under uncertainty and able to quickly adapt to changes in priority
An excellent communicator who is personable and approachable and can build strong relationships with stakeholders
Able to interpret large amounts of complex information and data accurately turning it into useful information
An in–depth legal and technical understanding of Health & Safety
Experience of working with SLT, including Board Members
